If you follow along on Instagram, you have seen us creating our new fire pit in the woods.   Some have asked, “Why are you creating a fire pit before you build the house?”   Why not?    For those who have built before, you know it’s not a fast process.  We have several people lined up to start, it’s just a matter of them all having time to start.  We are hoping in the next couple of months that all will happen.  In the meantime, we are finishing up our camper renovation and creating some little seating areas around the woods.  And, since we will be moving our camper over there, this is something we will for sure be using ALL OF THE TIME.

I have mentioned before that we LOVE being outside and we LOVE having different outdoor seating areas on our properties.  Since we have several acres to work with in the woods, we are both dreaming up some really fun projects to share with you all.

I have been DYING to share our very first project on our property in the woods…. our new fire pit area!

Creating a Fire Pit Area

Figuring out the location of the fire pit area was our first task.  We know where our house will setting and found a place where the woods was a little thinner with no big trees to remove.  We started by using a weed eater on all of the underbrush and removing any small saplings in that area.

Deb collected a BUNCH of rocks years ago to possibly use in our landscaping at our old house.  Some of them were flagstone and some were fieldstone.  They were “stored” in the woods for years.    We marked our round fire pit area with white spray paint and then started placing the thicker flagstone all around the edge to use as a border.  Next, we decided to make a little path to the fire pit using the fieldstone as a border.

We then put down landscaping fabric to help with the weed situation, but mainly so the rock wouldn’t sink down into the dirt.  And then made a trip to our local stone quarry to get packing stone.  We used about 3 loads of 11F packing stone on the entire area as a base and as a filler of the flagstone.  Once it gets wet, and settles, it gets pretty hard and almost like concrete.  And then we went back to the quarry for some pea gravel for the actual seating area around the fire pit.  By the way, you guys loved seeing that on stories.  A lot of you asked if I saw Fred and Barney while I was there.  ????

Fire Pit Accessories

Now for the fun part.  I like to decorate our outdoor spaces just like I do our indoors by giving it that homey feel.  ????  I found all of our fun accessories from Walmart.  You guys know how much I shop there.  Walmart has pretty much everything I need to get all of our DIY projects done.  I chose these white-washed wooden Adirondack chairs for our seating around the fire pit.  I LOVE them not only because they look great.   But, by removing the two wooden dowel pins on the side, they  fold up which makes them perfect for storage through the Winter.

I already know I will get asked about these throw pillows.  Because they are so freaking cute.  They are, also, from Walmart, but are in-store purchase only.

What is a fire pit without patio lights?  I LOVE to create ambiance in my spaces with warm lighting.  These LED heavy duty string lights are PERFECT to do just that.  Deb hung them directly to the trees with cable screw clips.  And, we LOVE our outdoor double-sided clock.  This one is no longer available, but I found a few different ones that are.

You had to know I would need some type of music source out by the fire.  These rechargeable  rock speakers work PERFECTLY for this area.  They are wireless and waterproof, too.  And, they sound AMAZING in the woods.  I have some plans for disguising them a little better, so stay tuned.

This was such an easy DIY project as far as design goes.  And it was also practical, since we will be hanging out here lots this summer.
