The Christmas decor is down. I never in a million years thought I would be unhappy about that, but all of the twinkling lights gave this turd of a rental life. I had three larger trees with white lights in this tiny house and approximately 645 smaller ones. ???? The space is EMPTY… and I’m sad. So, what now? I have decided to add some life back into this place with some artificial plants and some fun new items. But today I wanted to share my new fake plants. I would LOVE to purchase real plants but, I swear to you, I kill every single one of them. My pattern: I OVER water because I am so happy to have them and I want them to live. I then forget about them and they die. The end. ???? Every stinking time!
It’s so hard to tell online if plants will look real or cheesy. So, I decided to place an order and keep my fingers crossed. They arrived at my door and I was very pleasantly surprised. They landed in the living room nook (aka.. odd space) of the rental and it gave that area life again after the Christmas decor was gone.
By adding in my artificial plants, it gave this area new life. They LOOK real, which makes me SO HAPPY. I’m not a fond lover of fake looking greenery, so this is a big hit for me. They are plastic, but the details are gorgeous.
I kept the same furniture in this area and pooped it up with different things. Remember this clock? If you follow over on Instagram, you probably do. We found it at an antique store a few weeks ago and I immediately fell in love with it. It was marked $24 AS IS (from $48) with another 10% off. We knew it didn’t work. I asked Deb if she could take out all of the old mechanisms and install new clock parts to get it working. She is always up for a challenge. It worked! She had to change the hands because the old ones didn’t fit with the new parts, but I’m so happy with it. If we find another one, I will do a post on it and show you how easy it was.
I was really missing the twinkling lights, so I added a bench in front of this big mirror and added my antique brass candle sticks with my Luminara timer candles. And, I LOVE it. It looks so pretty at night and still gives me the illusion of the ambiance of the Christmas tree lights.
My artificial olive tree took the place of my Christmas tree that was once up on top of this antique wardrobe where we hang our coats. I found mine at TJMaxx on clearance last year, but found a few that I linked below that look similar to mine. I love adding these little olive trees in my decor this time of year because they really can take the place of Christmas trees.
Of course, it is still Winter, so I keep the comfy throws and leave out the wintery pillows. But, I think by adding just a little bit of greenery, it gives this space some life. Do you feel the sadness of the lack of decor after Christmas? Let me know in the comments or over on Instagram and Facebook!

Always inspiring me to copycat you! Girl style you have is amazing. Happy New Year, and oh by the way, I am getting over the flu, but still need that paypal cash for some shopping therapy(treatment).
Love these faux plants! I think I need to run to TJ Max and see what I can find! Hopefully your two pack of ferns will come back in stock soon at Walmart too!????
So beautiful Danelle! I love when you poop up an area! Yes, its always so sad and bare after all the Christmas decor is down and put away. That was actually my chore yesterday and when my husband got home he said it looked really sad in here! Haha, I’m not the only one!
Yep. Greenery for the winter win! You have so much more space in your rental turd than I do in my chosen home! Funny how we see things…. you see your rental as a turd, while I see a warm and inviting winter cottage. Go figure. Room envy? Yes, I have it.
hahahah Thank you… and trust me. Behind the scenes, it’s a turd. A BIG, STINKY TURD. ????
[…] that the Christmas trees are down, it just seems bare. I showed you the other side of this living room a few days ago and used an olive tree in the same place that I had a Christmas tree. Well.. I […]
Everything looks great! This turd looks spectacular to me. ????????
I hate to remove Christmas decor. Everything feels so bold and abandoned without it. Hahaha
I’m definitely gonna use some of your ideas to revive the space. And I still might keep some of my Xmas lights around ???????? cannot let go yet lol ????
