I’ve been dying to share my office / craft room space with you.  And while I’ve been gathering my before pictures, it took my mind back to the year we spent in our teeny tiny house.    Oh my word.  Everything had to be organized but there wasn’t room for any extras, like my sewing machine, craft supplies, etc.  So, it all remained in boxes upstairs in the attic area.

Plans for the Rooms

When we first bought this house, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with one of the bedrooms.  This house has four:

The Master Bedroom

The Guest Bedroom

The Torture Chamber

And, the Office/Craft Room – Deb refers to it as “Arts and Crafts:  K-12.”    ????

Call it what you want, but it’s one of my favorite rooms in the house.  It’s not just an office to house our desk and to store our paperwork in our antique filing cabinet.  But, it keeps my craft supplies organized and it’s where my brain can go wild…besides during the middle of the night when I am supposed to be sleeping.  So maddening.

(Excuse the nasty cell phone pictures.  I brought NOTHING to this house with me that was worth any value while working on it.   Remember?  It was a hoarder situation.)

The roof leaked in this upstairs bedroom.  The water ran through the roof into this room, through the floor into the kitchen below, and through the kitchen floor into the basement.   It was truly so disgusting.

This bedroom was filled with lots of nice antiques and not much trash.  It had boxes stacked amongst the furniture and just looked out-of-place compared to the rest of the house.  You could actually walk around in this room without walking on trash.

An Unexpected Visitor

A few days after we started loading the first dumpster, a car pulled up to the house.  A young lady approached us and introduced herself.  She said that she had rented a room in this house from the previous owner several years back and left all of her furniture and belongings and planned to get them at a later date.  The owner never returned her phone calls.  She was very kind and said that she knew since we bought the house that technically her items now belonged to us, but explained that the antiques were given to her by her grandmother and were very special to her.  She explained which bedroom it was and what all was in it, which also explained why the bedroom was a bit more organized than the rest of the house.

Considering we had an entire house filled with trash to remove, we were more than happy to allow her to come and clean out one room!  I believe we even tried to force her to take a few extra goodies from other rooms.  She declined.

Considering this room has two large windows and is located on the southwest corner of the house, it is happy and bright all day long, and you know how much I love the sun.   Being the smallest bedroom, it is roughly 9′ x 13′  and it is located right beside the bathroom.  There was actually a closet door in this room that led to nowhere.

One of the grand daughters of the original owner told us they had built the house with only a shower and no bath tub.  Throughout the years, someone decided to use that closet space to install a bath tub, which obviously left no closet in that room.

Basically this room was cosmetic work after our crew finished the roof, we installed the new windows, and the plaster was repaired in the leaky ceiling.   Oh, and the closet door leading to nowhere was closed.

We painted the walls SW Pearly White and installed our inexpensive pine board flooring.  Each time I type these words, you are probably thinking “blah blah blah…you are a broken record.”  I can’t help it.  I love the color and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the flooring.  It’s very easy to install and it is inexpensive.  But, I may have mentioned that a few times, also.

Can you tell I have an obsession with antique chandies?

I figured as much!

And, you know I can’t leave you with only janky pictures, so I will share with you with my little $4.00 basket that is hanging in this room.  I found it at a junk shop which was previously filled with gaudy looking bright old lady flowers.  I plucked every single one of those suckers out except the white ones and was left with this.
