If you’ve been following along recently, you already know we’ve been working hard on our master bedroom refresh. I just get bored… you know? ???????? We hung some new brick wallpaper and what’s a bedroom refresh without new Linens and Hutch sheets. The bedroom has changed so much in the last couple of weeks. I knew that I wanted a different headboard because I was tired of the old ones. But I LOVE antiques and repurposing things so I knew I didn’t want a “new” headboard. I don’t think it would match our style.
I shared a little cubby that we found at the Springfield Flea Market Extravaganza a few days back. Well, we came home with a few other treasures as well. I already had something planned for our headboard until I saw these over 8′ beauties.
As soon as I saw them, I got all excited thinking how cool these would be as a shutter headboard sitch. Shutter boy said that they were removed from a barn someone was tearing down that was built in 1848. These were the shutters from the exterior. Can you imagine how massive that barn must have been?
They were a little more pricey than I wanted to pay. So I walked away. And, besides, I had already planned for something else. We ended up walking around aimlessly to gather our goodies that were being held. And why I say “aimlessly” is because this place is so big that a person can get lost. Or persons… Deb and Danelle to be exact. We had our map all marked to what booths we needed to find but still got all discombobulated. ????
We loaded up our goods and drove ten miles down the road to grab something to eat and get cooled off because it was MISERABLY hot. After we were all cooled off…
Deb: “Do you want to go back and get those shutters?”
Danelle: “No…..”
Deb: “Are you sure?”
Danelle: “Yes….”
Deb turns on turn signal to head home (the opposite way from the flea market): “Speak now or forever hold your peace.”
Danelle: “OK……. go back.”
Deb: “Why do you always have to be such a bullhead.” ????
Oh the way back, I told Deb that they were more than I wanted to spend but if he would come down to a certain amount, I would buy them. We got back to his booth to investigate the sitch. He said he could come down $25. (I wanted him to come down $50 total) Deb looked them all over and mentioned that they needed some work. They were a bit rickety… ???? And she would need to cut them all to the right length and put some of them back together. AND, we would need to give them a coat of polyeurethane so that we don’t choke on a “full of lead” paint chip while we sleep. (Nobody freak out….. we’ve done this before. ????)
He ended up coming down to the price I was good with and we brought these suckers home. Deb worked her butt off on them. She had to take some of the side pieces off and cut all four of them down because they were actually an inch too tall to fit in our room. And they are so tall that she has to come up with a creative way to hang them. Right now they are leaning. ????
I think they add a totally different feel to the brick wall. It almost looks like they are supposed to be there.

They look so good! I still can’t believe that wallpaper!
I absolutely LOVE the shutter headboard! May I add what size your bed is? Love love love your home and your style!
Thank you. It is a king size.
I absolutely love your headboard, well I love everything about your bedroom. Just awesome how the headboard and wallpaper are perfect together. I am so glad that Deb knows her stuff on what needs to be done to get your headboard repaired, etc. To get that price down too….SCORE…y’all did good. Love it so much!!!
Thanks so much!
Does the poly leave them shiny? Was just given my first “chippy” windowframe that I want to display in my living room. It’s not very big. What do you suggest?
We used satin. There is a minimal shine to it.
Really love this idea! Did you make the wreaths and how? If not, where did you buy them? Thot that was the real wall. Very cool!
Thanks so much.

[…] We actually used to have an antique bed but I really don’t know what happened to that. ???? We may have sold it… Our headboard right now happens to be old shutters off of a barn. We found them at the Springfield, Ohio, Extravaganza Flea Market this past Fall. […]
I too have a great piece with chippy paint. Did you wash it with soapy water first to get loose paint off then dry then one coat or more of satin polyurethane? Thanks so much for your guidance!
