I have been looking for unique antique pendant lighting for the cottage for awhile now. We have several antique chandeliers that will go in the cottage and then be transferred to the house once it is built. But, I had this vision of large white milk glass pendants hanging over the antique kitchen island. We found SEVERAL this past summer when we went to flea markets and garage sales, but never matching. I definitely wanted two matching pendants.
Someone contacted us through Instagram messages several months ago about some antique pendant lighting at an antique store, The Country Shoppes of Grabill, about 45 minutes from us. She said they were circa 1920s and original to the building. And they were removed because they were doing some remodeling. They had milk glass pendants. She sent me a photo and I immediately fell in love.
Somewhere, there was a miscommunication. She thought they wanted $500 for all 5. Which is actually a great price for antique lights that are 100 years old. When I called the store the next day to enquire about them, they were $500 EACH. They are beautiful and antique and gorgeous, but I would personally never pay that.
Cut to two days ago.
I received an email from the same girl saying that she THINKS they are now willing to negotiate a different price. I’m assuming they wanted them out of the way before they got broken. I called and checked their hours and while doing other errands in the area, we stopped by the check them out.
They said they would come down to my original price of $100 EACH. There were five available so we grabbed all five of them. They will all need rewired and we will need to find more chain to make them longer since our ceilings will be 10′ in the barn, but they will be spectacular. We had to do a quick run through of the rest of the antique mall to see if there was anything else we needed. ???? If you saw our storage unit, you would say we need NOTHING.
I absolutely fell in LOVE with this antique mirror. It is GORGEOUS. The frame is about 10″ wide and is nothing like anything that I have. It happened to be 20% off of $120 for a NY sale so that came home with us also. As well as these two little yellow ware bowls because any time I see them for a great price, I grab them to add to my collection. They were 2 for $10. I NEVER see them for that great of a price.
You know that I love to share all of my antique finds with you. Keep watching because I will show you where I display them all. And seriously, I cannot wait to see these lights in the barn. I know exactly where 4 of them are going to go. Stay tuned.
