With a new-build home, it can take a lot of work to put your personality and style into each room and space. Over the last week, Deb and I have been trying to do exactly that with our entryway and landing area. 

Our entryway was decorated, but it didn’t have the texture and fullness that we like to see in each of our rooms. To remedy this, we installed wallpaper to the ceiling of our entryway room. We still need to paint it with a metallic paint we found online, but that particular project is coming along nicely. Also, we are installing a “carpet” runner to our wood stairway as well as adding more texture to the walls around the stairs. 

We still aren’t 100% sure how we want the finished project to look, but we know the room is going to have way more visual appeal when we are done. The ultimate goal is that guests will instantly get a feeling for our style as soon as they walk in our front door. Here are some of the accounts and posts we found when searching for inspiration for this project. 

Entryway Edition

Wall Panels 

Stefana specializes in customizing cookie cutter homes, and in this space she added wall panels to the wall below the stairs. The look is still simple and neutral, but it looks very high end. This is exactly what I have in mind for the walls around our staircase. 

Wallpaper 

Cindy McCord Design shared this entryway with a lovely floral wallpaper. It still fits the neutral look for me, but it gives this space a very bold appearance. I just finished adding a floral wallpaper to our dining room, so I love this. 

Ceiling Wallpaper 

Villa Victorian 1898 shared the wallpaper on the ceiling of their home. At first, they were sure what they thought of it but now they love it. This is exactly what we did to our entryway ceiling. We added a wallpaper that is meant to replicate a tin ceiling. 

Wood Beams 

Capitol Lighting is actually trying to show off this stunning light fixture in this post, but I can’t stop drooling over the wood beams that are used to create a design on the ceiling of the entryway. Just wow! 

Console Table

One of the most common items used in an entryway and along the wall of a stairway is a console table. It adds height and depth, and allows you to build up the space with additional decor items as seen here by Amaris from Living Delcidly. 

Bench

If you don’t have a console table in your entryway, there is a really good chance you have some type of bench or seating area. I love this wooden bench shown and styled by Audrey from Audreyscheckdesign. 

Stair Runner

Adding a runner to your stairs can add texture and a touch of color, but it is also practical in that it adds a little traction to what could be a slippery surface. This is exactly what we are doing. I love the runner that Jen from Painter Place Home Co chose here. 

Another few items that a lot of people use in their entryway that are worth mentioning: built ins, large mirrors, and area rugs. Two of these are very practical. Built ins offer storage space and add a place to put your shoes and coats. An area rug helps protect your floors when someone walks in your home while also adding additional patterns and colors. And a large mirror helps reflect light and make the room feel larger.
