If you have been watching over on Instagram, you already know we need a refresh. Our rental has been feeling very stale. I explained our feelings in a post when I shared about the update on the house. And, let’s face it, if The Woods and Ivy Cottage would start being built tomorrow, we would still be here through the entire Fall season. And if I didn’t take the time to decorate for Fall this year, I would miss it. Fall is my favorite season. So we moved almost every piece of furniture around in the rental to spruce it up. And created a completely chaotic scene. ???? Oh my gosh, it is still terrible. But we are working hard on it. In other news…I created this simple Fall side table look using my collection of old photos. And I wanted to share.
I should start out by saying that I think I’m the queen of collections. ???? Deb would say that, too. I could start a new collection almost every day if I wanted to. I shared another Fall look using my yellow ware bowls last week. In fact, stay tuned. I have a post coming up about vintage Halloween decorations that will include a new collection of mine. ????
Anyways, as I was decorating this little dresser turned side table of ours for Fall, and added these little sewing machine drawers for height. I always think adding something like these drawers, a basket, or a box makes it looks like a stage for whatever is on top. I came across my antique tintype photos. And thought they looked good with Fall items because they are dark in color. My antique foldable ruler made a great holder for them. But, you could use anything… vintage flower frogs, etc. You could also use Fall photos of your own kids or grandkids. I displayed them on an open book because I liked the way the book looked open.
I added some height to my side table with these antique sewing machine drawers. And displayed my ceramic pumpkin that I found at Kroger. I grabbed one of my antique pitchers, which I also have a collection of, and dropped a few sprigs of Fall foliage.
Pretty much all of these pieces are part of a few collections of mine. By adding a pumpkin and a few sprigs of Fall foliage, it didn’t take much to get this little side table ready for Fall. Do you try to incorporate some collections in your Fall decor? It’s my favorite way to decorate!

Beautiful!! The sewing drawer box!! I have the drawers just need the box! Maybe a project for Deb??? Make a box for drawers tutorial??? Please, please!??? Haha Love your decor! It feeds my soul. Haha
hahaha Awwww thanks. Stay tuned. We will be showing you what we do with them.
That is so clever! I would never have thought to use a folding ruler as a way to display photos! I’m stealing that idea (and my husband’s old ruler) today. ????
Thanks you so much!
This is one of the best ideas ever! Those fold-able rulers always make me think of my “pap”, as I used to play with the ones on his workbench, when I visited and hung out in his work area. Since I saw this, I found a ruler on Etsy and have proudly displayed his photo with it. The funny thing was, I wanted to track one down, to display, but had not even thought of using it for photos. Thank you so much for the endless inspiration!
[…] styling for Fall. And remember, this house is small so I have to get creative with my areas. I styled this side table a few weeks ago and shared it, but I plucked the ceramic pumpkin that I found at Kroger and used it […]
You both have taught me to change my decor with the seasons for about a year now! I’m loving it!!!!!!!! I can’t thank you both enough for the true impact you’ve had on my life.
