I mentioned over on Instagram that we were doing a Sunday spruce-up. Several people said they would love for it to be a regular thing. Fact: We work on projects A LOT, which is probably an understatement. Some of them are major projects like the lamp post we installed last year by the small garage. We installed a second lamp post here by the cottage this year that took several days. And then we built the pergola swing. All of those are major projects that take more than a few hours. When I mentioned a Sunday spruce-up, I simply mean a quick re-do of a little area that will make it look so much better. And only take a few hours.
Last Sunday, we revamped one of our girl’s decks and I’m just getting around to sharing. It was in need of a little re-fresh. It took Deb and I less than 2 hours to do and we had fun. These are the kind of projects that we love.
The railing on the deck hit at eye level when you sat down. So that was the first to go. By doing so, it immediately made the deck feel bigger. And, also, allowed for a better view of the yard. Next up was a good power washing. This is a shaded area so we used our favorite electric power washer to clean the entire thing. I washed away a lot of mildew and old paint. And it gave the wood a nice warm tone.
Deb and I recently bought new chairs for around our fire pit (post coming soon) and decided to donate the old fire pit chairs to this project. We turned the power washer on them and they came out sparkling clean. We added a few mums that she had just bought and it looks like a whole new deck.
Like I said, this was quick easy project that took so little time. Sometimes just a little tweak here and there will make a space look completely different with little or no money.
I always hope you get inspiration from this space of mine. Our favorite place to be is home. And we want everyone to have that same feeling.
