We are all living our best porch lives. I’m not sure that we went in the house this past weekend, except to get more water. I’ve said it before, but we live every single day outside when the weather is nice. And, by nice, I mean not cold. When it’s rainy and hot, we are still outside on our covered or screened porch. Therefore, we love our outdoor spaces spruced up like our inside. I have kept my eyes open for the most perfect pieces of furniture to have on each side of our door. And, I found them recently at The Home Depot. So, today, I wanted to share some tips and tricks to styling outdoor spaces to get your home ready for the summer.
A lot of the items in this look are from The Home Depot. The Home Depot is not only a home improvement and a place to rent equipment. It is also a great place to pick up home decor. I have found so many great items there. The Home Depot is actually having a KickStart Summer promotion of up to 35% off on select furniture, mattresses, and decor though June 7. So be sure to check it out.
I wanted a potting bench type of piece on each side of the door and this wood console with two drawers and shelves from The Home Depot works perfectly. The drawers are perfect to hold garden gloves, a lighter for my candles, an extension cord since we are always looking for one outside. When decorating the surfaces, I like to bring all of my indoor styling ideas to my outdoor spaces. So anytime I am ready to style a surface outdoors, I ask myself what I love to see inside our home. Layers are important for a really interesting look. One of the items I use for my first layer is a mirror or picture.
I used this antique mirror as my first layer on our console table turned potting bench. It reflects light and it adds a lot of vintage interest. You could totally use a seasonal picture or one that is focused on nature. That would be pretty cool, too.
Just as inside the house, I add greenery or flowers to almost every surface. This year, we went with several artificial greens on our porch due to several reasons. Number one, we had a vacation mid-May and didn’t want to have to have someone else water everything. And, number two, we have SO MANY projects going and want to finish up… so we didn’t want to spend tons of time watering every night.
In my search, I have found SO MANY artificial plants that I am so happy with. This 23″ boxwood ball topiary looks so realistic. I had someone ask where I got all of my plants on our porch because they thought they were real. The prices of them are so good considering you will have these forever. These little ferns are also realistic. They come in a pack of two and are the perfect size to tuck in anywhere inside or out. You could set these boxwood foliage balls on top of a flower pot or urn, which makes a great look, as well. Or hang a wreath on the mirror in the back. I have done that many times.
Texture is the number one thing I focus on since my palette is pretty neutral. And, adding baskets are an excellent way to bring in much needed texture. I added a few of the vintage ones that I had in my stash. You can layer your plants in them or use them to hold other items that you need for you front porch. I set the topiary boxwood inside a crock and then inside the vintage basket to give it a little more interest. And it also helps cover up any container your artificial plants come in that don’t match your decor.
Serving trays are another must-have for my surfaces. If I am not actually using them to serve snacks and drinks, they are used to hold candles and other home decor. I like to group smaller things together in my decor on a tray so that it looks less cluttered. The ones shown here were both found at The Home Depot. And they are both quite useful. These come in a set of three for an excellent price. And, this one looks like an actual piece of wood, which I think is pretty unique.
You ought to know by now that I have to have candles and candlesticks on almost every surface I decorate. I either use battery operated candles or real ones because I love the little flicker it gives when we relax on the porch.
Throw pillows are A MUST! They instantly cozy up a space. Some people forget about throw pillows in their outdoor spaces, but if you love them inside, you will love them out as well. I found these Boho Geometric Print pillows from The Home Depot and love them with my neutral color scheme on the porch. If you love blues and grays, check out this ivory abstract pillow. It reminds me of a vintage rug.
Again.. don’t forget about their current promotion. Right now, KickStart Summer with The Home Depot and save up to 35% off on select furniture, mattresses, and décor through 6/7.

Your porch is gorgeous.
Thank you, Donna!
Beautiful! But how do you keep the wind and dust from your setting? Writing from MN; it would not last a minute here in the wind and dry dust that comes with it making a mess. So lovely however.
Thank you! The dust isn’t too horrible in our area, luckily, but we do have to combat the wind to an extent. Being in the woods tames a lot of the wind, but we actually use velcro to keep a lot of things in place for those larger gusts.
