If you don’t watch us on social media, you may not even have a clue that we have a back porch. Our back porch is right off of the utility room which is right off the kitchen. It is where we have our grill since it’s so convenient. I have been itching all summer long to get some home decor items for that porch. And to get it all put together. But, we have had so many other projects going on that I haven’t taken the time. I was recently online shopping at The Home Depot and found a few items for our back porch. And, I cannot wait to get this entire space put together so I waned to share what I found.
When decorating an outdoor area, the first thing I do is figure out what exactly we will be using the space for? This particular area, as I said above, holds our grill. So keeping that in mind, I got a plan.
We will more than likely need just a few chairs and maybe a table if we want to eat our meal out back. I am still unsure about what type of furniture I want, but I’m leaning towards a few Adirondack chairs. I will post when I find them.
The second thing I do when designing a porch is choose a rug for grounding my furniture. I have been known to use indoor rugs outdoors so I never limit myself to only outdoor rugs in my searches. If the porch is covered, I don’t worry about it too much. Since I lean towards a neutral palette, I knew I would love this Wesley Weathered Brown Tweed Rug by Home Decorators Collection. This rug is stain and fade resistant making it perfect for our porch area. And, it comes in several colors, sizes, and shapes.
And lastly, I start planning what home decor I will need for each surface on the porch. I love using indoor items outside, so this large brown antiqued classic accent mirror will find a place. I absolutely love the detail on the frame.
These light brown wooden candle holders are perfect to give ambiance to my space. Plus.. how pretty will these look down the middle of the table or on a mantel. I can think of so many uses for them.
You cannot go wrong with any type of basket when planning a porch area. They are good for adding texture and holding plants. I love these ivory round hyacinth baskets. They come in a set of two and look great inside your home as well. Use them to hold toys, magazines, extra blankets, etc.
Pillows and throw blankets are a must for all outdoor spaces. I love the drape a throw over our porch swings or across the back of our patio chairs. And, the same with throw pillows. The more the merrier. These rust and handwoven wool and cotton throw pillows are to die for. The texture they bring to a space is over the top. They remind me of an antique rug. And, this light brown stripe turkish throw blanket makes a statement, as well as being functional for the chilly nights ahead.
