We have been wrapping up several outside projects that are on our list: the garden pergola, the garden itself, the chicken coop, the paths and steps to the garden, the back steps, and so much more. And, as much I love working outside, I’ve really been itching to get inside to start my fall decor. Something about fall decor gives me warm and cozy vibes. So after we made a grape arbor yesterday, which has been on the list for months, I had a huge burst of creative energy. So, I decorated our first fireplace mantel for this season. It’s a very simple fireplace mantel look for fall that anyone can create.
By the way, I will be sharing our grape arbor here on our website soon.
To start, our fireplace mantels are all antique ones. And, it probably doesn’t look like it in pictures, but they are massive. This one is about 5′ tall and probably 6′ wide. And we actually got it at the same time that we bought the one for the bedroom. They came from the same old house. So, when decorating our big fireplace mantels, I have to think BIG.
I, of course, have a ton of mirrors. But, I sat one up there and didn’t like it at all. Since it’s so high up, it didn’t reflect anything pretty. I don’t have any pictures that are huge either. Do you remember my old chalkboard that I have used in other fall looks? I even tried that and didn’t like it. I didn’t like the color of the frame with this space. And, I didn’t like the black chalkboard in here either. So that went back down to my home decor room. The mantel itself is large, but the decorating space is only 8″ wide. I grabbed these fall colored fig stems this year and thought they would look pretty in a large container in the middle of the fireplace. Everything I had was too deep and hung over the edge.
The biggest thing that I found in my stash was this vintage gathering basket. I had it setting up there for a bit to see if I loved it. And as I tried more things, I kept going back to that basket. So, I ended up hanging it with a nail to secure it in place. And, then I started building around that by tucking those fall fig leaves down the mantel. When that was done, I thought it was too flat. So I added a resin pumpkin on each side to bring the leaves up a bit and create a bigger more dramatic look. Of course, we needed candles. I think these light colored wooden ones look nice tucked within the leaves and pumpkins.
The gathering basket needed something inside as it was too plain. And, I didn’t want a wreath because I thought it would be too much with those fig leaves. So, I grabbed a smaller Halloween print that I framed a few years ago and added that. I wish it were more of a fall look rather than Halloween, but I will leave it for now.
This was so fun for me to do. Like I said, I feel when I add fall decor to our home, it feels more warm and cozy. And, this definitely did the trick. I have some wallpaper picked out for this room and think it will add so much.If you love fireplace mantel inspiration, check out this in-feed inspiration post that I shared last week. You will get some great ideas from that. Also, stay tuned. Because, we have four mantels in this house to decorate. I have a few ideas for different fall looks up my sleep for the other ones. Have you started decorating for fall yet? I’m so excited to finish.

The witches are my favorite 🧙🏻♀️🧙🏻♀️🧙🏻♀️
My favorite!
Very pretty! Thank you for always inspiring! I hope to style my mantel mid September for autumn.
Gosh I can’t tell you how much I love that picture with the three little girls wearing witch 🧙♀️ hats. Such a lovely mantle scape. 🍁
We only have one fireplace with a TV above (thanks to my husband). I love blue and white and usually mix blue and white ginger jars with needle felted pumpkins my sis made me. The two colors work well together.
Trying to find candlesticks like you have, but cheaper???? Love the look you have.
This is just GORGEOUS!!!! I love the use of the Fall neutrals, and I think the “wee witches” were the perfect finishing touch.
Quick question: I purchased the candle holders and candles on your mantel but the holders have a spike in the middle for real wax candles. The fake candles don’t sit flat. Did you bend the spike or break it off? Do you have any tricks for making them sit correctly? Help!
YES….. I used a pliars and pulled on that point and took the entire plate off. If you notice, they have 2 nails that hold them in. So the entire thing popped out. I have it recorded for stories and forgot to share that. I will do that today.
