As you probably already know, I have been working on the dining room the last several weeks. Putting together one room at a time is really working for me. It helps with my ADD brain. We have the massive oak cabinet for the dining room in place. If you missed stories, I will be sharing here, as well. I worked on painting the inside of it this past week and love the way it looks. The white interior will make the items in the cabinet look prettier. I also worked on another cabinet and filled it with my pretty dishes. It turned out a bit more “cottage style” than I expected and I’m loving it. So, today, I wanted to share this little cottage style corner in the dining room.
Do you remember when we bought this cabinet? It was when we lived in the rental. And, we used it as our pantry. It is one of my favorite as the wood has such a pretty tone to it. The inside of it was painted a yellow-ish white and it looked very dirty. It had lots of stains on top of the yellow paint color. So, I recently gave the inside a coat of white paint and it sure cleaned it up a lot.
I am running out of antique hutches with glass doors, so I added my Mason’s Vista dishes in this cabinet. Who knows, they may find another home but I love the way they look here. Like I said above, it tuned out more cottage style than I have anywhere else in the house. I typically don’t fall into any particular category as far as home decor goes. Because I normally put all styles together. I may add a few more things to this cabinet in the wood tones, but this is a start.
I have had this set of dishes since I was probably 30-ish. So basically a long time. Ha! They have such a great story. If you haven’t read where I found a full set in perfect condition, check out this post. I have added to my collection throughout the years, too. If I find random pieces at flea markets and garage sales, I always pick them up. I also found some great pieces on Replacements.com a few year back. They have a great selection of old dishes.
If you have an old cabinet and have been wondering if you should paint the inside white, this is your sign to do it. It made such a huge difference. I love how it turned out.

I just love how the red dishes pop with the white interior. Nice work!
I know right… I am so glad I painted it white. It looks so much better! So thank you!
Hi Deb and Danelle! I love the contrast of the white paint inside and wood outside. What kind of paint did you use to paint the inside of the cabinet?
I typically just use whatever paint that I have laying around the house for projects like this. I just used a paint that I had previously used for our trim.
