I shared about the Noom app on Instagram a few days back. And, I figured I would share it over here, too. Because it’s pretty swell. OK that sounds like Beaver Cleaver. Didn’t he used to say that? ???? Anyways…. Noom is a fitness and weight loss app that was created by psychologists to get to the bottom of your habits. I decided to try it and I’m loving it. I heard from SO MANY PEOPLE saying they LOVE Noom and have lost weight with it. It’s basically an app that holds you accountable.
I don’t have much weight to lose (15-ish pounds) so it seems like they would be VERY SIMPLE to drop. But, I’m telling you…. hypothyroidism and menopause throw a big wrench into things. So many people have said, “Just eat healthy”… or “Just cut out carbs and eat only protein.” Well… I am hear to tell you. I have cut out carbs before and ate only protein. And, I gained weight. Because I am a person who needs a boundary with food. I could literally carry around a wheel of cheese on my shoulder and graze all day, because.. it’s protein. ???? So having a boundary makes it simpler for me.
All you have to do is download the Noom app. You answer a few medical questions and a few about your habits. The entire questionnaire takes ten minutes at the most. Noom asks you questions like how much weight you want to lose, how active you are, how fast you want to lose the weight, etc. Along with age, height, and your current weight. Then it does it’s thing. It tells you WHEN you should reach your goal weight which in itself is very exciting.
The reason Noom is a great app for me is because of the log. You log every bite that you put into your mouth. It has different ways to do that.. .from it’s search bar, to the bar code scanner, etc. Nothing is off limits. It puts all food into one of three categories from Green, Yellow, and Red. Green foods are great choices. You are to eat moderate portions of the Yellow foods. And you should limit your choices of Red foods. You can probably guess that Green foods are fruits, veggies, and whole grains, which is even brown rice. Yellow foods include lean meats and starches. And, Red foods red meats, desserts, and cheese. (Yummy cheese… LOL)
Like I said, no food is off limits. It just puts them into those categories so that you can see if you should eat your next snack from the list of green foods. ????
Noom encourages you to get on the scale every day. I have to say that I used to do that. And, for some reason I got out of that habit. Two days turn into four… which turns into weeks, and then months. And, before I know it, I am terrified to get on the scale again. You know what happens next. I finally get brave and step on the scale. “WHAT? HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?” ???? I act completely shocked to find out that I gained five pounds. When in all reality, if I just think back at my love of junk food recently, it’s not so hard to figure out how that happened.
Hopping on that scale every morning hasn’t bothered me one bit. It kind of keeps me more on track. I know that if I have followed the program, and my number goes up on a particular day, I have probably eaten too much sodium that day before.
I have been loving Noom! They do have a two week FREE TRIAL if you want to try it yourself. All you have to do is download the app, set up your account, answer the questions, and start recording. The two week trial is great because you can see if you love the app and can stick with it. There will, however, be a charge after that trial period if you want to keep using it. But you can cancel any time.
I believe I have lost a couple of pounds since I started tracking with Noom. And, I’m perfectly fine with losing it slowly. Because it’s better than gaining. ????
I found some really fun kitchen finds from Amazon and thought I would just throw them here in this post. Since we are talking about food and all. Every now and then I like to spruce things up and try new things as far as kitchen items. And some of these will make it easier for me to stay on track.
S’Well Stainless Steel Water Bottle – I love the looks of this water bottle. And it had me intrigued.
S’Well Lid – For above water bottle.
White Silicone Cooking Utensils – You have no clue how gross some of our utensils are. They are all being replaced with these pretty ones. Note the woods and whites color.
Digital Meat Thermometer – Perfect to check the doneness of meat.
Egg Cooker – The perfect egg cooker.
Lemon Juicer – Get every last bit of lemon juice… for my refreshing summer salad with lemon dressing.
Kitchen Scissors – Set of 2… Perfect for cutting up herbs and green onions to add to salads.
Salad Chopper – Something I have always wanted. I love my lettuce cut up very small.
Food Scale – THE BEST food scale I’ve had.
I also thought I would quick share the new Fit Track scales we started using. It not only gives your weight, but it measures 17 other indicators about yourself, including BMI, Muscle Rate, Bone Mass, etc. Because we all know there is so much more than just that one number. And, it keeps all of your progress right on the app where you can add up to 8 family members, too.
Keep me posted on your results of Noom… for those of you doing it. I hope to be at my goal weight by November 1.

I came over for the food scale but it’s not linked and I can’t comment on your IG!
UGH… I had a very odd day yesterday. IG took my comments away and it took a bit. I did add the scales to the post because I forgot it. ????
Started Noom a few weeks ago – LOVING IT. Getting over that scale anxiety was huge for me – I had more weight to lose than I thought and it’s coming off slowly. I’m not beating myself up when slipping and that has kept me from throwing in the towel after a bad day!
YES….. SAME. I no longer fear the scale when I deal with it daily. Keep up the good work.
