Normally, I wouldn’t create an entire post on our kitchen cabinet handles and pantry pulls. But, I found the most gorgeous handles for our kitchen that I wanted to share. Not only because they are so dang pretty, but the price is so good. Oh, and because they are listed on Amazon so they are a quick delivery if you need them. I knew that I would be getting a ton of questions in the future, so I am also trying to be proactive with the link questions!
I found these gorgeous gold cabinet handles on Amazon a few weeks back. And, I knew they were exactly what we wanted for our kitchen. So I grabbed a few extra just to be safe. The cabinet guy came last week to install them and I loved the way they look. We had four left so I was planning on sending them back.
The antique doors that are going to be hung on our pantries have old brass plates. They were all mismatched in the patina and needed a good cleaning. I knew we would need handles on our pantries but I was planning on grabbing a few older ones from eBay or Etsy. While Deb and I were over at the house discussing this idea, I held one of our kitchen cabinet handles up to the pantry doors. And we both LOVED how they looked.
I removed all of the plates on the pantry, inside and out, and used Brasso and OOO steel wool to clean them. The OOO steel wool was light enough not to scratch the plates but really did a nice job in cleaning them. Now I didn’t want them perfect because I still wanted them to have some original patina. But I also wanted them to match the new handles. So I cleaned the middle part of the plate well around where the handle will be.
Deb drilled the holes in the plates for me and then we attached the old plates back on with the new handles using a lot longer screws from the hardware store. Because these doors are really heavy and 2″ thick with the plates on the outside and the inside.
I love how the brass plates still have really pretty patina and how the new handles match them really well. It’s like old meets new.
They truly look like they are a match made in heaven and are something that has always been. I think the style of the handles even match the look of the pantry doors. Which, by the way, I haven’t shared the pantry doors yet, but will be doing that soon. They are already hung, but not completely done. I’m hoping the share them later tonight or tomorrow morning over on social media and here on my website.
What do you think of our old brass plates and our new handles?
Someone mentioned over on Instagram that they noticed how we have the screws all matching in the same direction and that her hubs would have noticed that. That is a trick Deb and I learned during our house flipping days. We did that in our first house that we flipped in 2008 and have been doing ever since. It’s the little details that some people notice. So, now that you see it, you won’t be able to NOT see it.
I will be sharing more of the kitchen soon, along with the rest of the house. We are getting there… finally!
