Are you in full garden mode yet? We sure are. Gardening and getting our porches ready for sitting. I am thoroughly enjoying being outside. I always say it feels like I broke out of a cage this time of year. The cage being winter. The front porch has been my main focus over the last several days. I’ve gotten a few things done and a few things planned so I wanted to get you caught up. So, here is the beginning of our front porch decor for summer.
I have a whole new look that I’m going for on our front porch. Well all of them, if I’m honest. I moved a bunch of things around so they will all look different. The front porch is going to be completely different with different furniture and different items from our yard.
Do you remember when we went to Springfield last fall and came home with 2 pair of antique urns? If not, I shared that entire flea market haul in this post. Well, 1 pair landed beside the garage doors and the other pair were beside the driveway as you drive into our woods. Of course, we didn’t get to enjoy them much out there. With the whole new look that I’m going for, these antique urns will work with my plans. And, the plans are to have a very full looking front porch. I’m going for old-fashioned cottage style. And, I want it FULL… full as in full of furniture, flowers, ferns, and urns. And, anything else antique style.
A full porch feels like you are tucked away somewhere private. Our home is already pretty private during the summer months with the leaves on the trees, so the privacy on the porch will be extra.
We hung four ferns on the front porch this year. We thought four looked the best. Our porch is pretty big at 40′ long x 10′ deep and could handle more, but I remembered our two stained glass windows that hung in our kitchen for awhile. We ended up hanging them between the two ferns, one on each side. And, the urns that were on each side of the driveway got placed beside our front door. They are massive and makes a grand entrance, which I also love.
We were at Lowes a few days back and found a triple ball topiary and thought these were perfect for our porch, as well. We put them in the wood planter boxes that Deb made from pallets when we were in the rental. It was a project that kept her creative mind busy.
We also have had so many people ask about our scalloped jute area rugs. These are actually from Amazon and are classified as indoor rugs, but we have used them on our porch for awhile now and they have been great! We like them so much that they are one of the few things that stayed in place. You can see them as well as a few similar options here.
I have so many more plans for this porch. I sold some of the furniture, moved some to other porches, and ordered different for here. It’s supposed to be here next week. Cross your fingers that I love it and it works with what I have in mind. Stay tuned for more porch and garden content because tis the season .
