“What is that big box on the wall in the kitchen going to be?” It’s one of the things we were asked about a lot over on social media. I had this vision of what I wanted our range hood to look like. It was to be a focal point for that wall with a shelf on the front. I envisioned displaying seasonal pictures, etc. Once we realized that the cabinets we wanted to hang on each side of the range hood wouldn’t work, we changed it up a bit. And we decided to use our antique corbels that we had in our stash. Well… Deb worked on it this past week and finished our large range hood out with antique corbels. And I love how it turned out.
You may remember them. We found these large corbels when we were shopping the 127 Yard Sales. We had absolutely no clue what we would do with them when we bought them. They were at a fabulous price and knew we would figure something out. We actually thought they would be used for an outside project. But here we are.
The cabinets didn’t look right on each side of the range hood at all. So, we decided on open shelves on each side of the range hood. Well, once Deb started working on this project, we decided that the shelf on the front would be too much. So she added the trim just like we had planned minus the shelf. And then decided that we needed something else EXTRA.
The corbels did the trick.
Well, the range hood needs to be painted which will happen on Monday. We are going to have the painters use our trim paint which has a little bit of a sheen. I thought it would give it a little bit of interest. Rather than those cabinets, we are going to hang open shelves on each side of the range hood so I can display some of my collections. Our kitchen doesn’t have any wall space for an antique cabinet. So, this will be the next best thing. Yes, they will be white. But as you can see in these pictures, once I start bringing all of my wood pieces into the house, it will start warming everything up.
After we are moved in and settled, we are going to start adding texture to a lot of the walls. I would LOVE to add thin bricks to this wall as a backsplash. I think it would complete the space.
We can see the finish line!
The electricians and plumbers are coming next week. That means, we will have water. It also means that the antique lights we have here in the cottage will be coming down this weekend and transferred over there. The audio visual crew will be here the week after next finishing up our sound system and our security system. After that, our floors will get one more coat of paint and a few coats of sealer. Then, we will have a week to wait for the sealer to cure before actually moving in. At that time, we plan on moving items that will go inside the kitchen island, work on filing the closets, pantries, etc.
Fun times ahead!
I think the antique corbels were meant to be here. They match our style perfectly and feel EXTRA.. which is what we are!

Well thank you! I’m happy with how this turned out.
Love the corbels!! They look awesome incorporated with the range hood. I love your combination of things.
Have to ask the story behind the wooden barrels? Such a unique item…..what are they, what was the use for them back in the day? I absolutely love them and would love any information on them. I’ll be on the hunt for them.
Thank you. And I have no information on them. I have a collab coming up at the end of the month where I will be sharing them. Stay tuned.
