We recently added some solar lights to the chicken coop run. This is something that we really weren’t planning on doing.  But, we bought the lights for something else, and then decided at the last minute that we liked them better here around the door to the chicken coop run.  If you haven’t seen this entire project from start to finish, you have to check it out.  See what the chicken coop used to look like and where we got it.  This has turned into a bigger project than we expected. Ha!  We worked on the run several months back so our chickens have a nice area to hang outside.  And we ended up adding the top to the run over the last couple of weeks, too, and got it all done.  Hallelujah!  I shared lots of outside photos of that here in this post.

When we added the solar lights to the chicken coop run, it got me thinking of how many ways solar lights could be used outside.  And, I wanted to share what has been rolling around in my brain to give you some inspiration for your own yard.

Solar Lights on the Chicken Coop Run

Like I said above, I bought these lights for something else.  And after we installed them where I was originally planning, I decided to try them here on the chicken coop run. This is where they stayed.  It takes two screws to attach them basically anywhere you like.  The “arm” of the light is metal and the shade that holds the solar part is a heavy plastic.  They are at a great price point which is perfect, because we didn’t want anything expensive out here due to obvious reasons.  These solar lights have three different settings including a motion sensor which comes in so handy.  You can turn them off and on and you can also set them to come on from dusk to dawn, which is what we have ours set on.   These particular ones come in several colors, and you can also buy one or two to a box.  They come with the lightbulb and are waterproof, making the perfect to install anywhere.

You could hang these solar barn lights anywhere, but here are a few different ideas that I have floating around in my brain:

Add them to a shed or other structure in your yard

Line a few down a privacy fence for ambiance in your backyard

Hang them on your porch posts for added lighting at night

Attach them over your backdoor for added interest and extra lighting at night

Dress up an old shutter in your porch decor by adding a barn light

Add one to a tree in a pathway for interest in your yard

Hang then on your child’s playhouse or swing set area

The options are endless for solar lighting because they can be hung literally anywhere.  If you have always wanted a light hung but don’t have electricity in that spot, try a solar option.  I did round up a few more for you if you don’t like this style.  Click the pics for the specific link.
