Wow… what a whirlwind that last couple of weeks have been.  We have been getting all of our outdoor spaces spruced up for summer.  What is so funny is that today is May 10.  We have had such great weather here in Ohio this spring that we got everything cleaned and planted a lot sooner than normal.  However, it feels like I am running late.  Ha!  I was at the greenhouse earlier this week picking up a few more flowers for the garden.  They had little to choose from.  It dawned on me that I am not late, everyone is early.  Anyway, we spruced up our screened porch for the summer a few weeks back and I wanted to share how that turned out.  Here are a few screen porch decorating ideas that you can hopefully incorporate into your own spaces.

Screened Porch Decorating Ideas

Seating

Of course, you will need to pick out the furniture you will want on your screened porch, or any porch for that matter.  When I worked with clients, the first question I asked is how you use this space.  Deb and I simply like to hang out on our screened porch in the evening hours because we can listen to the frogs in the pond.  We hang out there during the day sometimes, but more often at night.  So we went with 2 gliders which fit the space really well.  The gliders are Amish made that we bought last year at one of those Amish furniture and shed places here in Ohio. They are brown and cream color which match our aesthetic.  Are they my normal style? No.  But I went for function and comfort.  By adding a throw or pillow to each one, it makes them more my style.  We love them.

Side and Coffee Tables

Our screened porch is a small and intimate and not meant for an entertainment spot.  So I went with a coffee table which is the one Deb made a few years back.  I love it and shared it in this post.  It’s great for displaying flowers and different outdoor decor and holding any drinks we have.  Do you remember my penny ball? Check out that project as it’s a great one to do with kids or grandkids and you can use things you may already have laying around. I think it looks cute sitting here.

Pillows and Throws

Adding pillows and throws to an outdoor space not only helps disguise furniture that you may not think is exactly your style, but it also makes them cozy.  Isn’t that what we all want?  A cozy space?  I have had these pillow covers for awhile and love them. They are great quality and come in lots of different colors. I added my favorite inserts to them and they make them extra cozy.  The throw that I added is a turkish throw and very soft. I have several of them in my collection.  I’m not sure if this one is still available.

Rugs for a Layered Look

I love to make my outdoor spaces feel like my indoor ones.  By adding a rug, it creates not only a great layered affect, but it completes the look from top to bottom in my opinion.  It finishes it off. I chose this brown and cream colored rug for this space. It has been on the back porch all winter and still looks brand new.  This rug comes in lots of different color choices and is perfect for your out door spaces.

Stained Glass

If you have been around for any length of time, stained glass windows are one of my favorite things to spruce up a space indoor or out.  This is one that we found at a flea market YEARS ago.  We actually had a few of them in different sizes. One of them is hanging on our pergola porch swing.  Do you remember that project?  I love the way it looks here.  However, I have a few more in my stash and was thinking of switching them. Stay tuned for that.

Plants

Obviously plants are a huge part of your screened porch decor in the summer months.  We didn’t have any live plants last year on our porches because we didn’t want to take care of them. And that is because we had such a huge project with our vegetable gardens.  Our grass got planted last year along with all of our landscaping so we knew we would be watering so much every single night.  And we didn’t want to add anything else.  It was the first time we went with artificial plants so I am loving it this year. We went with two ferns suspended from the ceiling in the screened porch and a simple geranium in a pot on the coffee table.  It reminds of of an old fashioned porch.

Lighting

Lighting is another really important items in porch decor.  We have our gas lights from Bevolo on our porches which we love. You can add add type of lighting, including string lights, candle lights, night lights, lamps, etc.  I have added lamps in the past to my screened porch areas and loved that look too.

Wall Decor

Our screened porch doesnt’ have much wall space.  But, if it did, you can bet your bottom dollar that I would be hanging pictures and mirrors in it as well. I have done that in the past and loved the look. It’s all about matching the inside with the outside.  So choose pictures and mirrors that you didnt’ spend a lot of money on since it may get damp from the weather.

I hope this gave you some screened porch decorating ideas to incorporate in your own spaces.  We have been so busy working on them that I haven’t taken the time to update you.  You can find everything on our Instagram feed if you want a sneak peek, otherwise stay tuned here.  As always, thanks for stopping by.
