Roundup of Last Years Summer Projects and this Years List

The planning has begun.  Every year we have one major project that we plan around our property.  We call it our “big summer project.”  Our big summer project this year will actually happen late summer/early fall.  And, it’s BIG. I will share more about that later.  We do have several other projects that we are planning this summer that are smaller. Today, I wanted to share a roundup of last years summer projects and this years list.

Roundup of Last Years Summer Projects

Chicken Coop

We started our chicken coop project in the fall of 2022.  And then ran out of time to finish.  So the entire chicken coop got finished last summer.  You can see that post here.  I shared so many different posts on our chicken coop last year including where we started, the chicken run, when we got our chickens, and more.  You can see the entire roundup of all of the posts on that project HERE.  We were pretty happy when that project was done. It was a big one. It didn’t cost much money but was very time consuming.

Our Vegetable Garden

We knew when we moved here on our property that we wanted a vegetable garden and of course, it needed to be outside of the woods.  We LOVE heading out every morning in the summer months to check the progress of our plants.  There is absolutely nothing like fresh veggies from the garden for each meal. Tomatoes picked directly from the vine is my all time favorite.

See the initial plans of our vegetable garden here.  This was when we were in the planning stages.

The BEGINNING of this project was shared in this post.

We put all of the raised beds together in the workshop and hauled them out to our garden.  I absolutely LOVE our raised beds and am so happy we chose them. It is so nice and so much better on the old back, hips, and knees being able to stand and plant our plants. One project led to another in this garden because we planned everything as we went.  The beds were added and filled, which I shared how we filled them in this post.  We then added the picket fence, added some steps walking into the front of the garden out of old concrete pieces, placed some steps on the back of the garden, and made ourselves a GRAND entrance out of some Facebook Marketplace finds. This garden was a HUGE undertaking and truly took most of the summer.  Ha!  I remember thinking it was never going to end.

See all of our posts on gardens here.

Landscaping, Planting Grass, and the Fire Pit Area

The landscaping around our new home was a huge project that got completed last year along with our fire pit area.  We had nothing to do with it except keeping the plants alive.  We hired a landscaping company to do all of this.  But it was still done so I included it in the list.  I did share about our new fire pit in a post here.

Porch Decor and More

We LOVE outdoor living in the spring, summer, and fall months.  And, we enjoy our porches so much.  I always make sure to have our porches feeling cozy so that it reminds me of the inside of our home.  I shared all about our porches and so much more in several posts.

This Summers Project List

I am a HUGE list person.  So every time Deb and I talk about any fun projects that we would love to do, I add it to my Google Keep list.  Do you do that?  It’s something to focus on and plan.  I am telling you that once you write it down, it comes to life. Well, my list is ongoing and grows every day.  The following things are on this summers project list.

  • Add more trees and evergreens all around our fire pit area to give it a woodsy look
  • Spruce up all four porches by moving around the furniture for a new look and getting a few new pieces
  • Plant all of our flowers in pots and hang ferns on front porch to make a grand entrance
  • Organize our new barn and the little shed out back
  • Add our antique lamp posts to the driveway
  • Finally get our pond fountain installed
  • Clean up outside of the woods where we store concrete, lamp posts, etc
  • Add drainage around chicken coop
  • In ground trampoline
  • Finish landscaping project around garden fence by adding a border and more plants
  • Arbor to squatter’s camp

This is our list as of now and I know there will be more added as I said it is ongoing.

Make sure to watch social media stories if you are on, if not, everything will be shared here, as well.
