Holy Ferns! We should be called The FERN House on Winchester or just simply, The Fern House. Wow… The Spring front porch is complete and the ferns I found are GI-MUNDO.
Earlier this week, I shared with you my plans to clean and decorate my porch for the Spring and Summer months. We have always decorated our porches, wherever we live, pretty simply with ferns.
You already know I’m a neutral kind of gal. And, because I get agitated living with lots of different colors, we need to stay basic against the red brick of the exterior and the gray shutters, therefore ferns are a perfect choice for me.
Driving by Kroger, I spied GINORMOUS ferns displayed on their sidewalk with a tag marked $12.99. Being in my price range, they were exactly what I wanted. It took two trips in our janky truck to get them all home. That should have been my first clue they MAY be too big for my space.
Me: Will people think this is a flower shop?
Deb: As long as they don’t think it’s a funeral home, who cares.
I wanted to make a statement with lighting so people would know we mean business when they saw our porch from the road. Therefore, we, of course, changed out the janky old original porch lights with these big and gaudy exterior wall mounted lights that I bought through Amazon. I actually don’t see them available anymore, but these are so similar, I had to do a double-take.
They are pretty cool, huh? And, HUGE!
The pillows and chair pads in this space are from last Summer but I still love the way they look. So, they are staying. But you know me, I lose control sometimes and on a whim, everything changes over night.
We added this rusty candelabra from the ceiling and hung an old etched glass transom window behind the porch swing. This transom was from a demolished home that had double etched glass front doors with this beauty above them.
Don’t you just love it? I debated painting it white last year but we both decided we liked the look. But….that’s another thing that could change in a heart beat.
And take a gander at that huge gazing ball in that white chippy old urn? Can you say “big and gaudy.”
I’m still unsure about the size of the ferns for this space but they are staying for now. A few of them can always be moved in a backyard space that’s not even completed yet. I will be sharing that space soon and what we have in mind.
It just may include two old ladies and the construction of a pergola. And, I’m exhausted just thinking about that project.
Thanks so much for stopping by. I would love to hear how you decorate your front porch. I usually post a few extra pictures on Facebook and Instagram, so check us out there, too.
And…….BUH BYE NOW – Said in a loud, high-pitched old lady’s voice, because how else could you say BUH BYE NOW?

I don’t know about gaudy but I think it’s quite elegant. Love the gazing balls and the ferns. How do you keep from having traffic jams in front of your house with a porch that pretty?
hahaha thanks so much!
