The Project We Have Been Waiting On

Guess what is happening.  I bet you will never guess.  The antique street lights are FINALLY being installed down our driveway.  Can you believe it?  Maybe you don’t even know the story behind the project we have been waiting on since moving to our property.  So I wanted to share the story along with several before pictures so you can see where we are starting from.

The Project We Have Been Waiting On

In case you don’t remember, we sold our house in town and moved into a rental.  We flipped a camper that we had here on the property so we could get out of the rental for a bit and hang out here on our land.  We lived in the rental for 1 1/2 years until we built Deb’s workshop to live in until we built our home.  Since our camper days, we have talked about lining the driveway with pretty trees and antique lamp posts. We had a vision that I couldn’t get out of my head.  I remember sharing it way back when in our social media stories and even drew a picture of what I saw.

This is a screenshot of my story that I posted in August, 2020, using fake trees.

When we started building our home back in 2022, we told the builder that he needed to add that to the electric quote because we wanted it done while all of the crews and equipment were here.  Well, that didn’t happen.  We asked about it and it got dropped.  So, we called an electrician to get an estimate to line the driveway with our antique lamp posts, add an outlet by the pond for our pond fountain, and add electricity to our chicken coop.  The electrician came out in March of 2023 and said he would be out the first of May.  By June, he hadn’t shown.  Deb started contacting him regularly, which he said it would be mid-June.  By July..

Crickets.

We called around for other electricians and no one returned our phone calls.

Our builder came back and said that he felt bad because he knew he was supposed to do that.  He offered to help us by finding an electrician to do it and he would help us trench.  We text back and said that we would take him up on the offer.

Crickets.

He wouldn’t answer our texts and emails about it.  In the mean time, the original electrician from March, 2023, called and said he was going to stop by and look at the job again and get a game plan because he had time.  That was October, 2023.  After looking at the job, he said he would be here in about 3 weeks to start.  I bet you can guess what happened.

And, more Crickets.

Back to the drawing board…

By this time, we weren’t sure what else to do.  We got a name of an electrician from the company that put up our barn this spring. (I haven’t shared that here yet, but I will.)  Deb called him, he scheduled a time to come out, showed up, and got us on the calendar for the beginning of May.  Mid-May we both said, “Here we go again.”  He ended up calling and saying he was late but would be here this week.  And, they showed with all of their equipment yesterday and are already here this morning ready to go.

We spend a lot of time yesterday figuring out just how many lamp posts we want to go down the driveway.  We have 6 we are working with currently, but we actually have more in our possession that need some work.  I don’t want it to look like an airport so I don’t want too many, but I also don’t want it to look too sparse.  After driving around town yesterday looking at several different properties that had street lights lining the driveway, we decided to go with four.  The fifth one will be by the chicken coop and the sixth one will be by the house just inside the woods.

I am so excited for this project and honestly cannot believe it is happening.  It has been such a long time coming that we thought it would never happen.  By the way, we bought our pond fountain 3 years ago so it’s sitting at the pond place still waiting for them to install it.  We are hoping that can happen really soon, too.  I will keep you posted on all of this.

If you missed our other antique lamp post projects, make sure to check them out.  We clearly love them.  Ha!
