I have been saying I would update you guys on the house for SO LONG, because things have been moving at lightening speed. We have been so busy with different things that I have never taken the time to do this. I will be sharing an update on the interior of the house later this week as well. But today I wanted to give you an update on the exterior. Let’s reflect…. The basement was started the last week of April. The first wall went up the first week of May. Here we are on the last day of July and we have siding. Can you even believe it? I can’t. And, I am here watching the progress every day.
They aren’t completely done with the exterior, but they are far enough along that I wanted to share. I’m sure you already guessed what color of the house was going to be. Maybe I’ve said it but it wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out if I didn’t. We wanted to go with some timeless and classic – WHITE! We know that white siding may be too boring for some, but for us, it’s a blank slate. White siding never goes out of style and you can change the door colors, add or change the colors of shutters and the house won’t need touched. This is our forever home and we are trying to make everything as NO to LOW maintenance as possible.
Since everything is going to be white, I wanted to pay extra attention to texture to give it some variety. We went with regular white siding all over the house except under the front porch. There, we had them hang white shaker vinyl siding to give it a different look. We also decided that the ceilings on all three porches needed to be wood to keep with our woods and whites theme that we love so much. We chose a neutral brown.. not red or orange tinted and not gray. It is called Cordavan Brown by Cabot and it is really pretty. We also added a different texture to the 3 dormers and the two chimneys which are stucco. And, I couldn’t be happier with that choice.
All of the gray around the windows and the columns on the porches will be painted white as well. The cedar wood on the screen porch will be stained the same color as the ceiling.
Anyway… if you missed the exterior of the house plans, you can see the original post here. Also.. I shared the interior floor plan here, as well. We told the architect that we wanted an older style house that was not an open concept. I think she hit the nail on the head with it.
Stay tuned for the interior update to the house in the next couple of days.

Shaker tiles with cedar ceilings are spot on. Love, love, love all of your new home choices. Especially the layout of your downstairs.
