We took a week off from all work and ran to North Carolina to visit my sister and her hubs last week. It was kind of a last minute trip. When I say last minute, I mean about a week and a half before we decided we could take no more clouds. Both Deb and I are very affected by several cloudy days in a row. And, at the time of our decision, I think we were on week three of gloomy weather. Deb was ready to cry and I was explosive. We are both fine with cold temps, but the clouds do us both in. So off to North Carolina we went. While we were there, of course, my sister and I had to go antique shopping. We both love thrifting and antiquing. I happened to find only a few things, so I wanted to share our vintage finds from our vacation last week. If you like this type of post, make sure to check out several other of my vintage hauls.
This antique crystal chandelier wasn’t actually a find from North Carolina. When we were on the way to my sister’s house, we stopped in Chillicothe, Ohio, to break up the drive there. I happened to be on the Facebook Marketplace to check out their items in that area. This ten arm chandelier popped up for $225, which is a great price when they have all of the crystals and the canopy. However, we were only there over night. Once we got to North Carolina, I kept watching it. I knew we would be driving through Chillicothe on the way home and figured if it was still there, it may be meant to be.
The day before we left to come back, I reached out and asked if she would be open to meeting us last minute… because I really couldn’t set up a specific time since we will be traveling. And, everything depended on traffic, etc. I gave her an hour window of when I thought we would be there. She said she was able to leave work for lunch whenever worked for us and that I should text her. She met us at a place right off of the highway so it worked out perfectly. I have a place in mind that I want to hang this so I hope it looks OK. Ha! I have been a bit stressed about it actually. This may be happening today so stay tuned because I will for sure be sharing here and on social media, as well.
I love old pottery and have quite the collection. This huge brown pitcher was in a booth that was marked 50% off so, of course, I scoured it. This is the only thing that I found there but it was such a great deal. I believe I paid $10 for it. I ended up finding another brown pitcher for $10, as well. However, I can’t remember the details as it was fairly early in our trip. I will be adding both of these to the massive cabinet of brown pitchers and bowls in the dining room.
The huge brown crock in the background was also 50% off one day at a thrift store. I believe that was $14. It has a chip but I don’t care about that. I don’t go for perfection as they all look nice when you collect.
This was a fun find. My sister had some prior appointments so Deb and I checked out a few thrift stores down the road. This victorian horseshoe footstool is something I had never seen before. It was marked $11.99. I did a quick google search and found several for WAY MORE MONEY than that. I thought it would add interest to the guest room upstairs as I am getting ready to decorate that and make it feel more homey. The pattern of the fabric even looks like me.
My sister had these wrought iron sconces in her stash and didn’t want them anymore. I gladly took them off of her hands. She said they were originally in her home when they bought it and had a candle in the base. I believe they are missing a glass cylinder in them but I have different plans. I want to use them outside this summer for maybe a planter. Stay tuned for that, too.

OMG I just bought those sconces to our local goodwill shop. Never thought to use them as a planter. Can’t wait to see what you do with them
I can’t wait to get a better look at that chandelier…it looks very cool! You’re like me…sometimes I stress over something I bought because I want to love it in it’s space and until I get it there then it knaws on me. Sometimes I still question myself until it grows on me. And….sometimes it’s as great as I thought it would be all along. I guess that’s just the chances you take when you buy an antique that you can’t return. But hey…look at your gorgeous home…doesn’t look like you make many wrong choices to me! That chandelier has good bones…it will be awesome!
Linda, I hope you saw where we installed it. It was definitely worth getting! I’m so happy.
I really like the horseshoe stool. I have never seen one before. I have always liked horseshoes being from KY. I will be on the look for one now!!
I found a pair of these exact ones on the side of the road today! Trash day is my fave day of the week! I don’t know what I’m going to do with them yet either. I was thinking planter, too!
That is an amazing find!!
OH WOW!! Our winter home is in NC (25 miles SW of Raleigh). Would LOVE to catch up sometime when ya’ll are traveling again!
We have some great shopping stops in the area including my favorites. I purchased a solid wood bedroom set for our daughter for $85 at Guardian Angel n refinished it to her taste. (Would love to send pics!).
Hopefully, see ya’ll on the next trip south!
