I’m assuming you have heard me talk about our “stash” before. We have picked up lots of items from garage sales, etc, and don’t really have immediate use for them but they were a great deal. And, we love them. But, I’m trying to go through my stash because I get overwhelmed with it all. I am looking for different ways to use pieces that may not be the original intent. That’s something Deb and I always love to do. I recently showed you how to update an old sconce without hard wiring it, so that was on my mind.
We picked up two of these antique cast iron porch sconces last year at a garage sale. It seems as though they came off of a garage maybe. ???? They are heavy! The one was missing the globe part, but I believe they were only $10. We thought maybe we could figure something out to do with them. We thought about installing them out under the pergola but we decided to do something else.
I spied them again the day as I was working on organizing “The Stash” and an idea came to me. I have a spot in our half bathroom downstairs that I’ve always thought needed something. You know how much I like to poop up my walls with goodies. Well, it was just looking a little plain for my taste.
I decided to remove all of the original wiring and bulb base inside the lantern. And, of course, clean the years of dirt build-up from the base and globe. After hanging an old shutter that was also in my stash, I attached the lantern to the shutter with two black screws.
I added a timer candle where the bulb would have been and placed the top back on. I love this type of candle because they take regular AA batteries and they have a timer and not a remote. Which means, if you turn them on today at 5pm, they will burn for 5 hours and shut off, saving the batteries. And come back on every day at the same time. You never have to go around and turn them all on.
I pretty much love it. It gave the little wall in our half bathroom some interest. And when I grow tired of this, it will be easily removed with two screws. What do you think? Let me know in the comments or chat with me over on Facebook and Instagram where we have loads of fun!
Thanks so much for stopping by. You will never know how much I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!
Buh bye now,
