A Closer Look at the Trim in Our Home

We lost count, but we have flipped 12-15 houses.  This is the very first home we have built.  It’s funny.  I’ve heard horror stories about building.  People telling us that they almost got divorced while building their home and that they would never do it again.  And then there is a handful of people who love it so much that they’ve done if 3 and 4 times.  We have actually had a great experience.  But.. we knew a lot of what we wanted.  From the very beginning, we had certain things that were a must when it came to our new house.  One of those things was the trim around the windows and doors.  We talked about the trim back in January.  And, I really forgot about it until the trimmers came to install it.  If you watched stories over on social media, you heard me every single day say, “I absolutely love our trim.”  I didn’t miss a day.  Well.. I had a lot of requests for closeup pictures so that you could recreate the look in your own home.  So, here is a closer look at the trim in our home.

A Closer Look at the Trim in Our Home

We knew that we wanted our trim around the windows and the doors to look and feel like an old home.   So many of you reached out and said that you have this same trim in your 100 year old homes and love it as much as I do.  If you notice, the top of the windows and doors have several different trim pieces to make this look.

I wanted the trim to be a lot more substantial on top.  The trimmers made this look with a 1″ x 6″ board across the top of each window and door.    Underneath that board is a 1/2″ x 1″ laid on it’s side and on top of that board is a 1″ x 2″ also laid on it’s side.  And, they attached all three of those boards together before adding them to the top of each door.  The sides and bottoms of each door and window are 1″ x 4″ boards and are mitered at the bottom.

There are so many different looks you can create around your windows and doors to make your home different from most.  This is a style that I think suits us so well. And also is a classic old home look.

I hope that helps with all who wanted to see closeups to recreate this look in your own home. Have you seen this type of trim before?

Have you seen our pantry doors?

I just love how they turned out.  We have to figure out the window issues though.  I think we are going to have textured glass cut to fit because the window film is not working for us.  I have tried installing it several different ways and it isn’t good.  For sure, I will be sharing that when we get that done.
