Our 16’ x 16’ Sunroom Addition: The Coziest Spot in our Home

Did you know our sunroom was something that didn’t make the cut in the planning process of building?  We knew it was something that we would add on in the future. Well it’s done!  And our 16′ x 16′ sunroom addition is the coziest spot in our home.

Our 16’ x 16’ Sunroom Addition: The Coziest Spot in our Home

When we first dreamed of adding on to our home this past year, we didn’t know just how much magic a 16’ x 16’ sunroom would bring into our daily lives. This room has quickly become our favorite place to relax. It is the perfect place to sit and watch the birds. We are currently able to see the entire west side of our property, that is until the leaves are on the trees.

It adds so much natural light to our home from sunrise to sunset.  Whether we’re sipping coffee in the morning, flipping through a book or social media in the afternoon, or just watching the fountain in our pond, this room is our current favorite.

There’s something so calming about being surrounded by windows, especially when it rains. The sound of raindrops on the roof and glass is pretty relaxing. It’s become our go-to rainy day hideout.

Our Furniture

We added a comfy couch that we bought from Ikea, which I highly recommend. The price is great and it has a slipcover so that’s a win in my book. This is the Hyltarp and we chose the slipcover in the color Gransel Natural. And I love our vintage green velvet wingback chairs in here as it kind of blends in with nature.  Those were purchased years ago on the Marketplace.

Of course, this room needs a collection or two. We added a few china cabinets which holds a random green/gold/salmon pottery collection. The larger cabinet is one that my dad made years ago which I shared all about in this post. There are plans to hang curtains just to give the room a little bit of softness. Don’t worry, it won’t hide the views.  We have to add crystals on the chandeliers and hang two sconces on the fireplace wall yet.

Did you notice the huge leaded glass door hanging from the ceiling?

We found that last fall at the Springfield, OH flea market. I knew from the moment I saw it that it would hang from a beam here in this sunroom.

While our sunroom is especially pretty on sunny days, this room is one we gravitate to whether rain or shine. I bet it will be really pretty during our snowstorms here in Ohio.

  • Your house makes me feel relaxed and homey. I want to repaint my walls with the color of white you used. What is the brand and name? Does it feel soft in most lighting?
