Antique Doors in the Utility Room

The antique doors in the utility room are hung!

As you probably already know, we have several antique pieces that we are incorporating into our house house… doors and fireplace mantels.  Well, we are at THAT phase of this building process.  These items are currently being installed and we are THRILLED.  This week, the antique french doors were hung for the guest bathroom upstairs.  The 200 year old fireplace mantel that Deb worked so hard on is now in place.  And, today, the crew got the antique doors hung on the coat closet in the utility room.  And, I couldn’t wait to share.

Antique Doors in the Utility Room

Do you remember when we picked up these doors at Green Oaks Antiques in Rochester, Indiana?  We literally dropped them off at a friend’s house, on the way home, who is an expert at stripping furniture.  They are beasts and neither of us wanted to tackle them.  Well, we have had them stored behind our bed in the cottage and using them as a headboard since we picked them up.

We removed all of the glass and have them in storage for the time being.  Because we thought it would be easier for the guys to hang them and not worry about breaking it.  They tightened up a few of the panes that were loose and fixed a few areas that were pulled apart.  They removed them from the actual frame to hang them here in the closet, which we have plans for the original frame.  I will for sure be sharing that once we do that project.

We still need to do more work to these doors…

I need to decide what I am going to do with the glass.  I thought about having mirrors cut for these doors since it is right by the door to the garage.  It would be pretty handy.  I also thought about using the same film that I may be adding to the upstairs bathroom doors.  And, I will probably seal them with some type of sealer to protect the wood.

I absolutely love the hardware.  As explained in the last post, these doors were shipped from Europe.  So it’s probably why I’ve never seen any hardware like it before.

Quite frankly, neither of us could wait to see these antique doors hung here in the utility room…. and the pantry doors hung in the kitchen.  Well, we’ve had to be patient as both of them happen to be almost the last things on their list.  For the record,  the pantry doors are hung but they aren’t done so I will be sharing those next week.  Stay tuned!
