I have had so many requests on bathroom styling and how to decorate a bathroom to make it feel like the rest of the house. Since I have a guest bathroom that has not had anything done to it at all, I figured this was the perfect time to do this. Besides, I think I may be having a guest soon, so it will be great to warm up this room. We are starting from a completely blank space so this will be a great before and after. Here are a few ways that I like mixing old items with new.
We have a soaker tub in the middle of a window. While there is no one beside us who could see in the window, I still wanted window coverings. I chatted about the curtains and motorized blind in a post a few days back. That alone made a HUGE difference. So I will say IF you have a window in your bathroom, dress it up with some type of curtains. That did wonders.
I love to add newer items with my vintage and antique pieces. Besides, I know a lot of people don’t have access and don’t have the means for antiques. I heard from so many people who say items that I may have purchased for $10 here would be $200 where they are from. Or they simply never see anything like it. So, I grabbed a few newer pieces that look old that could be incorporated into your decor to give you the same feel. Also, when I was younger and didn’t have the means or the time with my littles, I loved finding things like this. I replaced them with antiques when I could.
The pieces that I grabbed not only look great with my color scheme and style, but they are functional as well. The little vintage wooden storage box with drawers is perfect to store your makeup in on your vanity top. We actually use an old machinist tool box for ours that I found at a yard sale YEARS ago for a few dollars. It works perfectly for that. This little box would also look great on a desk for office supplies, in the kitchen for coffee pods, beside your couch for remote storage. It has so many uses.
The little white and wood canisters work great for cotton balls and q-tips for a guest or main bathroom. I can think of a lot of other uses for those as well. I removed the knob from the larger canister so they could be stacked. Of course, a pretty soap dispenser, tissue cover, and a few little trays complete the look on the vanity.
I like to have extra toilet paper handy for guests. So the divided basket works perfectly. You an add a few toilet paper rolls and add a plant in one section. We have this mirror behind our guest room toilet but I love this picture. And I thought it looked nice leaning up against it. Also, for the people who have medicine cabinets behind their toilet, this picture could either be propped up against the wall like this or hung above it. It’s excellent quality.
I hope this gives you a few ideas of your own for decorating your bathrooms.
I have a large shelf that I have hanging here in this room that I decorated with vintage items. That will be shared really soon over on social media and then here as well. This guest bathroom is finally coming together. We have some plans to add texture to these walls which will probably happen this fall/winter. It will be another From Flat to That projects in our series.
