Brick Pad for Pergola Swing

If you missed the pergola swing we built a month or so ago, you need to start there.  This is the one project I was looking so forward to when we got out here to the woods.  We built one similar at our last house in the woods and I cannot tell you how much we hung out there.  So it was a definite MUST here, too.  We started it the weekend of July 4 and it has rained SO MUCH that the area was basically a mud pit.  Recently, it was finally dry enough out there to get this brick pad for that area done.

Brick Pad for Pergola Swing

We collected a bunch of street bricks probably 10 years ago from our old town.  We had no where to put them at the time so we stored them in the woods on Deb’s parent’s ground.  As soon as we started this project, we knew exactly what we were going to do with them.  We bought a few pavers to make our job a little easier and to not use as many bricks.  We have lots of plans for them in upcoming projects.

We used packing stone to make the area beneath the pergola swing level.  then we added a layer of sand over that to level them out more as we laid them.  We came up with this pattern because it was pretty simple.  And we liked the looks of it.  This brick pad made a world of different in not only how the pergola swing looks, but also how functional it is.  We are no longer in mud over there.

What else we have planned.

Someone asked me recently if I was afraid we would run out of projects.  The answer is NO.  We have so many things we want to do and look so forward to.  We still need to landscape around the pergola swing and around the antique lamp post we just put up.  I will be sharing that soon, too.  There is the deck project that needs landscaped around and we want to bring in lots of stones for our dry creek bed.  And, then build a little bridge over that.

We just got our pond dug and have so many different things we want to do to that area.  (I answered a Q&A with pond questions, too.)   One being a greenhouse to store pond items, chemicals, etc, along with garden items.  We will have some raised garden beds out there, too.  There will never be a day we run out of projects!

So. Many. Projects… which makes us both so happy.
