Lights Above our Pantries

If I could go back and do things differently, I would have added lights above our pantry doors from the start.  And, only because it cost so much more to do it after the fact.  BUT, we did it. We added these lights above our pantry doors this week and I absolutely love them.

Lights Above our Pantries

Have you ever built a home?  There are SO MANY decisions to make regarding your home.  And, the decisions start with the architect long before you even break ground. Once you break ground, things that you thought were ironed out with the architect really aren’t.  Ha!  Which means… more decisions.

As you may know, we have two pantries.  One is for food and the other is for our small kitchen appliances. When we were in the middle of the build, I said, “Why didn’t we add lights on the outside of the pantry over the doors.”  It was a space that was big enough to hold lights for sure.  Not only would it look better, but there would be so much more light on that side of the kitchen.  As the wall direct opposite of the pantries is the kitchen sink which has 3 lights above it.

While talking to the electrician during the build, he eluded to the fact it was too late. It obviously wasn’t because we just had it done.  I think his answer should have been, “I don’t want to do it.”  Ha!  We had someone come in and add the electrical boxes several months ago and FINALLY found some lights that we love.

Do you remember when we went to the Springfield Flea Market and I made a list of things we were looking for?

Well, 2 matching vintage sconces were on that list.  And, we came home empty handed as far as the matching sconces go. My first choice is always vintage lights when we add them to our home as most of them are antiques.  However, if I can find a really pretty new light that looks vintage, I am never opposed.

We used these sconces above our kitchen sink and LOVE them.

When searching for antique lighting, I usually search eBay and Etsy both.  I looked and looked for antique ones and finally gave up.  And, found these gorgeous brass and porcelain finish sconces and couldn’t be happier.  These lights come in two colors:  Harvest Yellow and Enamel White.  While the yellow probably would have matched my house just fine, I went with the white.  The brass is unlacquered like our kitchen faucet which means it will turn a little bit after time… which also means it will look older.  Yay!  And the shades have a porcelain finish.  They are just so beautiful.

I shared an unboxing video over on Instagram if you want to see them closeup.

We hung them last night and I couldn’t stay out of the kitchen.  Ha! We had dimmers installed on them so after we were done cleaning up the kitchen from dinner, we dimmed them.  And, they gave such a pretty glow and lit up that area so nicely.

I am so happy with our decision to add these sconces above the pantry doors after the fact.  They not only look nice but are so functional.

In my search, I found several other options that I considered. So if these aren’t your cup of tea, check out the other ones that I found.
