Organizing a Small Kitchen – Love Where you Are

This post is sponsored by Crate and Barrel and ShopStyle.  All opinions are my own.

We moved into this rental over a year ago.  We are VERY grateful we have a place to live, but I have to admit that it’s been hard.  Anyone who has downsized TEMPORARILY will understand how difficult it is to squeeze into a smaller space.  We are busting at the seams.  ????

We moved from almost 3,000 square feet to 1,100.  Our storage unit is FULL.  And so is this house.  One of our missions from the very beginning of moving here was to LOVE where we are at this moment.  We have done so much to this little rental all to make it feel extra special and like our own home.  One way we have done that is to stay VERY ORGANIZED.

We have been sorting through all of our cabinets in preparation to move… throwing away things and donating what we can.  We ordered several storage containers from Crate and Barrel to get this little kitchen organized and to make the transporting of our cabinet contents easier to our new place.  Crate and Barrel has such gorgeous pieces that are excellent quality, which is a must in our books.  I found some of the nicest items for organizing a small kitchen.

Organizing a Small Kitchen – Love Where you Are

Inside the Cabinets

Deb is an organizing fool.  It truly is one of her passions and one of her favorite things to do.  She can take a junk drawer and spruce it up like no other.  So, when we received our storage containers from Crate and Barrel, she did her thing.  She used the ProKeeper containers to keep all of her baking supplies available and ready.  If you don’t know, Deb LOVES making homemade bread, so this set of Progressive ProKeepers was perfect for us.  The sizes were designed for baking so the mini-keepers can store an entire box of baking soda or baking powder and include a shaker and sliding leveler for accurate measuring.  They have silicone gasket seals to keep everything fresh.  But the container for brown sugar has a terra cotta tamper in a dedicated compartment to keep sugar moist.   I just love that feature.  The Progressive ProKeepers 9-pc Bakers Set is such a great set to not only keep us organized but it is functional as well.

Open Shelving Organization

Since we are lacking cabinet space in this kitchen, the open shelves in our kitchen acts as overflow.  I, of course, like to stick to my favorite woods and white tones if something will be seen within the decor.   These large glass containers are perfect for us.  The wood top matches my theme and the clear glass makes things looks extra pretty.  And they have silicone gaskets to keep everything fresh.  As you can see, they are currently being used to hold our stash of Christmas candy.

Canisters are another way to stay organized in style.  I store lots of different items in these white canisters.  They are absolutely perfect to keep close by for when you need a dusting of flour for a recipe.  And they work excellent for coffee because they have a stainless-steel tablespoon that hangs right on the side.  They come in three sizes, small, medium, and large, and match my woods and whites theme.

Countertop Organization

Tip:  If you don’t have enough room inside your cabinets, you can use a large tray on an island or the center of your table to stay organized.

I displayed everything that I use on the regular on this large gold tray.  It holds our oil and vinegar bottles, Ivy’s dog treats in a pretty glass container,  and my salt cellar.  Which by the way is pretty swell because it has a swivel lid.  These can also be used for herbs used regular, salt and pepper combo, and even by the sink for a ring holder when washing dishes.  I hope this helps with organizing a small kitchen!

Sprucing up and organizing this little kitchen here at the rental just made us both so happy.  Lots of you know we are ready to get our building process underway, but we are two girls who need to LOVE where we live.  And getting things organized is a sure way to feel better.

I hope this inspired you to see that you don’t have to be in your forever dream home to love where you are at the moment.  And if you are one who is staying home for the holidays, it’s a great time to get organized.
