We have two pantries… one for food and one for small kitchen appliances. We had an antique buffet in our storage unit for a few years while we built. And when we emptied our storage unit after we moved, we had no place for that buffet. So we decided to use it in our appliance pantry. Well, it wasn’t working for us. And last week, we made a decision to revise this area and give us more storage in this space. And, also turn it into a coffee bar. So, here is our coffee bar and appliance pantry makeover.
Don’t get me wrong.. I LOVED the look of the antique buffet in this pantry. But, there was SO MUCH wasted space. We knew that when we moved it in there, but thought it would be fine. Well it was until it wasn’t fine. So Deb had this idea to build shelves like the top of this pantry.. which is also like our food pantry shelves, and call it a day. However, since we wanted to make a coffee bar, we needed a counter at the correct height for that, as well.
If you watched social media, you know this, but we couldn’t get the buffet out of that pantry. So, Deb took it apart. And, while she was doing that, I asked if she could build in the drawers to this space to hold our coffee cups, spoons, coffee beans, etc. She loved the idea and decided it would be so handy to have a few drawers.
Deb built the drawers in and added trim all around the bottom which was the pretty detail of the buffet. I am either going to get a basket to store in this lower blank area for more storage or Deb suggested a pull out drawer like we have under our kitchen island. I am not sure what we will do in this space yet.
We left the original hardware on the drawers. I love these handles so much and think they are so pretty and unique. I decided to line the inside of the drawers with the same wallpaper we used inside the pantry since I had some leftover. It cleaned up the drawers and made them look so much prettier and gave some added interest.
It was actually taken off of our 12′ kitchen island since we added our quartz to it. The pieces were so big that we knew we would use them elsewhere and this was the perfect piece. Deb then built shelves all the way around on each side of the drawer section for added storage. I cannot tell you how much more space we have.
I will be adding a bunch of items for our coffee bar but wanted to get this posted on social media now because this project drug on forever. Ha! I will share once I get this coffee bar all set up.
