Our Fireplace Seating Area in the Kitchen

Did you know we have four fireplaces in our home?  If you weren’t here from the beginning of the build, this may be new information to you.  When I first saw the plans from the architect, my heart jumped.  The thought of four fireplace mantels thrilled me to the core.  Especially when I saw the one in the kitchen.  I thought a lot about that fireplace in the kitchen during the building process and couldn’t wait to make a little seating area for Deb and I to enjoy our coffee.  I recently spruced up our fireplace seating area in the kitchen and love how it turned out. This little spot has become one of our favorites.

Our Fireplace Seating Area in the Kitchen

This fireplace mantel in the kitchen has made it’s rounds.  We went to a vintage flea market type of thing right after we sold our old house.  And, we found this huge antique fireplace mantel and knew we needed it for our new house.  We lived in the rental at the time so we decided to use it as a headboard for a bit.  And then we  moved it out in the family room behind the couch.  We were so cramped in that little house, so we had to be creative.

When we were in the midst of building this house, I knew this particular mantel would be the one in the kitchen.  And, I could picture two chairs in front of it for extra seating.  Little did I know that Deb and I would hang out here several times during the day.  Sometimes, we sit here first thing in the morning to warm up by the fire and drink our coffee.  And, almost daily, we sit right here in these chairs and enjoy a second cup of coffee.  We call it coffee hour.. even though it’s not an hour.  Ha!

A Closer Look at the Seating Area

These two tufted back chairs are actually recliners.  And, if you know Deb, you know it’s her favorite.  She loves a good reclining chair.  These are small enough that they can be tucked into any space.  And the price is excellent, too.  I recently added this little round antique table in front of the fireplace because it’s getting warmer outside… and we aren’t using the fireplace as much.  Both of us have said how much we love the little table here in this spot.  This rug is one that I found a few months back… and I loved it because I wanted to try a braided rug in this area.

I added my bucket of tulips to this table, along with one of my favorite home decor coffee table books, and a candle holder that I found on a recent antique haul.  Of course, with one of my favorite battery taper candles.

This pillow covers in this seating area are some of my favorites.  I bought the cream colored linen covers last year.  And, I just found the brown ones this year.  The quality of them is excellent and the price is phenomenal.  And… the color of them is called Dark Coffee, which I find fitting since these are our coffee hour chairs.  Our coffee hour that is not an hour long. Ha!

On the mantel, I have a few old books, along with my vintage candle sticks I found a few years ago.  They got a makeover with oven cleaner.  Have you tried that?  I don’t like to use that on big projects, but I will on smaller ones.  The rusty containers are actually sap buckets that I found at the Springfield flea market a few years back.  They hold my artificial ferns that I have had for awhile that look so realistic.  I found them on The Nested Fig website.  Which, by the way, I have a code.  You can use DANDD10 for 10% off.

And that is our little seating area here in the kitchen by the fireplace… where we have coffee hour that isn’t an hour long.

I took this random picture of Ivy because I don’t understand how she can sleep like this.  All conditions have to be right for me to sleep… let alone having my neck completely sideways from my body.  Ha!

I have all of my past fireplace mantel looks rounded up in one spot if you missed them.  You may be able to get some ideas for your own space.  As always, thank you for checking in on us to see what we are doing.  I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of you all.
