All Things Outside

Our New Rugs for the Front Porch

I have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather we are having here in Ohio and working on our porches.  Did you see the artificial plants that I used?  I shared them a few days back.  I am LOVING them so far.  It gets pretty cold at night and I haven’t even had to worry about taking them all in.  Ha!  Who knows, we may get a few geraniums in our urns but I still cannot commit to that.  My motto for 2023 is to work smarter, not harder.  And, this goes right along with that motto.  Our new rugs for the front porch came in yesterday and I couldn’t wait to share.

Our New Rugs for the Front Porch

First off, whenever I thought about purchasing rugs for the front porch, there were a few must-haves.  They had to be neutral.  Because if you have been around here for any length of time, you know that my brain goes haywire with a lot of colors and patterns.  They also had to be washable.  There weren’t a ton of washable rugs on my online search, but Rugs USA seemed to have a larger selection.  I decided to order a few and figured if I didn’t like them, I would send them back.  I happened to love both styles that I got.  And, in fact, want to order a few more for the other porches.

I thought these were perfect for our front porch because of the color.  I needed two in 8’x10′ because our porch is 10′ deep by 40′ wide, so one for each side.  I figured that if I loved these two, I would grab another matching one for in front of the door.

However, I got this one for the screened porch. Which, by the way, I hope to share that space in the next couple of days.  It was setting on the porch while I was moving furniture around and I actually loved the two together.  It is a little darker making it perfect for in front of the door as it will show less dirt as people walk upon the porch.

The Actual Colors of the Rugs

It is so hard to tell by photos and videos because they always distort colors, no matter what I do.  The lighter colored ones which are on each side of the porch are creams, whites, browns, golds, and a really light shade of pinkish-salmon.  It doesn’t scream pink but it’s there.  Which would make it really pretty if you like to fill your porch with pink flowers as it would probably pull more of that color out.  The first colors that I notice are the whites, creams, and browns.

The smaller one in front of the door has cream, brown, burgundy plum, and pink. But again.. I don’t see pink when I look at the rug.  But, it does have a bit in it if you really look at individual colors.

I absolutely love what these rugs did to the front porch.  It warmed up the space so much and gave it so much more interest.  I’m not sure that I have mentioned it here before.  But, we left the concrete unsealed so that we could do some type of decorative porch floors.  We talked about staining it first.  But then thought adding a brick overlay or some type of tile that looks like wood planks would be gorgeous. We haven’t figured that out yet but wanted to get our spaces all put together so we can enjoy them now.

What do you think?

And what do you think about a porch floor?  Any suggestions?

  • I love these rugs! Did you buy the pad they recommend? I want to do something similar and don’t know if the pad is necessary. Love your style!

    • Hi, Pamela! We tend to uses the recommended pads with our indoor rugs, but we didn't in this particular outdoor space.

  • Hey Danelle! (and Deb 🤭)
I have never thot about bringing a rug outside before!
This is absolute ✨Magic 🪄 ! And using washable is like a Huge “duh” factor coursed thru my brain! Luv! this idea!! ….now I’m going to be on the hunt! Thanks for such wonderful ideas!
You two are just the best!

    • We try to use a rug in every space! It adds color and texture and just seems to pull the space together. And I agree, the washable factor was a game changer, especially for the outdoor rugs.

  • Hello Deb & Danelle
I love your front porch & love how your old table fits so well with the new chairs … I wouldn’t change a thing with that table, just sayin!
But, I do love your idea of the brick on the cement instead of stain or tile.
The thing is, you always have the best thoughts so you go right ahead & do you!! Lol!
Can’t wait to see what you decide!
I have loved following you guys along since House on Winchester!!
    BFN, Kelly

    • Thanks for following along, Kelly, and thank you for the kind compliments! Sometimes we just wing it, but somehow it all comes together in the end.

  • LOVE the porch fixtures, furniture and rug!! Do you take the pillows in at night? And/or before storms? They are so lovely.

    • We don't take the pillows in at night, but we do take them in before storms. We are always scrambling before a storm to get everything inside.

  • I absolutely love the new house and how you all decorated everything! The place the so gorgeous! I love the porches so warm and inviting! I enjoy following you both you’re so entertaining and funny just like an old friend that we’ve had for a long time, and Ivy is such a sweetheart! Really love watching you all you so fun.

    • Thank you so much Patricia! It's people like you who make what we do fun. Thanks for sharing in our journey.
