Deb was browsing Facebook and came across a photo of these doors at Green Oak Antiques in Rochester, Indiana.  It is only 1 1/2 hours from us.  We have been there several times and have bought lots of goodies.  As a matter of fact, we had just paid them a visit a few days before and these doors were not there.   Can’t you just see these as closet doors, master bedroom doors for the closet, or doors to the office in our new house?   My wheels were spinning.  I ended up calling on them the next day to find out the size and price. 

As you probably guessed, we ran and picked them up.  And I arranged for my friend who strips furniture to remove the paint. 

Do not panic.  ????  I had several people over on Instagram tell me it made them sick that I was having the paint stripped off.  BUT, I know myself and color.  I do way better with wood color.

Antique Doors for the New House

We ended up dropping them off at our friend’s house right after picking them up so she could get started.  She sent me several updates which are the pictures here in this post.  She said she hand scraped all of the loose paint, stripped them, and then sanded. 

The original hardware on these doors are brass and they are gorgeous.  Green Oak said they had just come in from overseas.  And he thought maybe Europe.  So the hardware is something that I’ve never seen.  

I want to stain these pine doors a warmer color that won’t turn really orange.  Which means I will be doing some research to accomplish that.  And when I briefly looked on YouTube, I saw where you could dye the original orange color from the wood and then stain it regularly.  But, that is something you will need to stay tuned for.  Because I haven’t done all of my research.

We also have a few pieces of glass to replace.  Deb mentioned having frosted glass added, but we haven’t made up our mind on that either.  We just knew if we didn’t grab these doors when we saw them, we may not get them.

We obviously don’t need these doors for awhile, since we won’t be building the house until the beginning of summer.  But, we have plans for these here in the cottage.  Do you have any guesses as what they will be used for?
