Antique Pantry Doors for the New House

Antique Pantry Doors - Deb and DanelleAntique Pantry Doors - Deb and Danelle

Have you been watching social media stories over the last week or so?  I briefly mentioned our quick trip to Chattanooga, TN, in the newsletter as well.  Which, by the way, if you don’t receive the newsletter, you are missing out.  (Sign up here)

Backstory of the antique doors….

I received an email from one of you.  It was a Facebook Marketplace post of the most gorgeous doors for sale.  There were only two pictured in the original ad.  We immediately fell in love and tried to figure out where we could use the set of doors in our new house.  We kept thinking we could break up the set and use them for closets, etc.  So I reached out to the owner and said, “You don’t happen to have another set of these do you?”  She said, “Actually we do.  They just aren’t here.  And, I will give you a great deal on all of them.”

They were originally marked $595 each.   She said we could have them all for $1200.  So, of course, we made the flying trip down grab them.  Because now that we have two sets that are identical, we know that they will become our pantry doors.  We are planning two pantry closets in the kitchen so these will be perfect.

History of the Antique Doors

I LOVE finding out the history behind some of our pieces.  These doors were removed from a church that was built in 1896.  The owner thought that these doors were added sometime in the year 1900.  It was when they built an auditorium attached to the original church.  These doors were the interior doors going to that auditorium.

All four doors have the two small windows in them.  And they all have the brass plates.  They also have the old hinges that swung both ways.  I’m unsure we will be able to use those hinges as I don’t know how deep the pantry will be yet, but that can easily be changed.

A lot of old doors only had the fancy, thick trim on the front side and they skimped on the back side.  These doors are identical on the front and the back sides.  They are heavy and such great quality.

I am so excited to see our visions come to life for our house.  If you missed the house plans, I shared them a few months ago.  And I shared the layout here.

What do you think of our new purchases?  Are we the only ones who would drive 7 1/2 hours to get a set of antique doors for their pantry?  ????
