We have been adding a few new antique pieces to our collection.  I shared our hutch last week which now holds my favorite collection.  Several people have called it “East Lake” style.  I have no idea and don’t know the history.  But, I love it.  And, did you see the antique oil painting? I asked in that post if anyone knew the history, because I feel someone should.  And, I got a lead.  So stay tuned.  I will keep you posted.

I explained in these two posts where and why we acquired these new-to-us antique pieces.  It’s a great story, so make sure you check out the posts.  Anyway.. this is another piece we bought from a friend.  And, I’m LOVING it!  Let me show you the details.

Antique Sideboard with Mirror

I fell in love with this piece the second I saw it.   I think we have one in storage similar but it’s a lot bigger.  We bought it at an auction years ago and refinished it.  It’s not as pretty as this and who knows what we will do with it.  I do know that our storage unit is FULL and we will be getting rid of some of the items in it.  1/4 of the entire unit is Christmas and Fall decor because those are the seasons I decorate a lot.  Probably another 1/4 are items that we don’t use every day but didn’t want to get rid of… scrapbooks, year books, sentimental pieces, etc.  The other half are stained glass windows and some furniture.  Some of it will be sold, so stay tuned.  I will be sharing those items to local people.

I love the top piece.  The one we have has a smaller top piece without much detail… from what I remember.  It’s been 2 1/2 years, so my memory may be failing.  I have a small collection of Majolica pieces that I have collected over the years.  Which I always grab when I see them for a few dollars at garage sales or flea markets.  I love the color of them since they are earth toned.

And, of course, I added my candles sticks and favorite candles.  I have a few more pieces that I want to share soon that are NOT pieces of furniture.  You may be shocked when you see them.

Are you as into antiques as we are?  I have been collecting for 35 years now and started in my 20s.

    • I love this antique hutch! Such beautiful wood and detail, can't wait to see where you put all these pieces in your new house! So exciting and fun to watch! I totally enjoyed all your new adventures in houses and decorating! Love you girls!

  • Hi. You probably know this but to check if a mirror is an antique use a coin. Put the coin on the mirror at right angles, if the reflection touches the coin, it is a modern mirror. If there’s a gap between the coin and the mirror, it’s an antique. Love the pieces you’ve found, fabulous!!

  • So, once in my former life I was an Antique dealer. Now I'm a retired senior citizen. That said, I still have a home full of lovely oak antique furniture. Your sideboard is gorgious! The majolica looks beautiful (wish I had some). Yup, the cabinet in your last blog is a beautiful example of the Eastlake era. I so enjoy reading your newsletters. Your vintage style decorating is exquisite.

  • You have a beautiful late Victorian sideboard, which incorporates earlier design elements . It is most likely from the 1890's. IT IS NOT EASTLAKE! Eastlake style is very rectilinear with concave scooped-out designs. It was popular in the 1870's and 80's
