We recently bought this antique oil painting (and a few other antique pieces) from a friend.  I explained the story of why we are getting these pieces when I shared this an antique cabinet.  This huge oil painting was hanging in her large stairway wall.  She said she was for sale and I just knew I had to have her.  I had NO IDEA where she would hang here in the cottage but I have a few ideas for the new house.  We will have 9-10′ ceilings in the house so there will be plenty of space for her.

Antique Oil Painting

We have very little wall space to hang art here in the cottage.   And, when we decided to buy these pieces, we both said they will NOT end up in storage.  Neither of us cared if we have to cram everything in here.  So, my initial thought was to hang her on the doors that we are using as a head board.  Well… she looked a lot smaller on a massive wall and I GRAVELY underestimated her size.   ????  She is 67″ tall and 47″ wide.  So, that idea didn’t work.

We leaned the picture up against a cabinet in the kitchen and left it there over night.  I’ve told you before but I do a lot of creating in the night.  I think my brain relaxes enough that I figure things out quicker. When I woke up the next morning, I had this thought.  If we don’t have wall space here in the cottage to hang her, then I needed to create one.  Since we have a lot of floor space, I turned one of the antique cabinets sideways and hung our antique oil painting on the back of it.  It actually fit perfectly and looks really pretty from the living room side.

I would love to know more about this painting…

because I think she has to have a great history.  How fun would it be if someone remembers it hanging in their home.

The only facts I have about this antique painting is that my friend bought it during a big barn sale several years ago.   The location was somewhere between Decatur, Indiana and Fort Wayne, Indiana.  And note the back tag.

If you have any information, email us.

  • Have you by chance googled Patrick Coffaro? He is an artist now living in AZ. He’s 75 years old. I wonder if you sent him a picture of the painting & the note on the back if he could possibly be that artist.Could be a good place to start. He has a FB, Instagram page & website.
