Fall Decor

Artificial Baked Goods to Use in your Home Decor

When I think of the fall and winter months, I think of a warm cozy home with candles burning and cookies baking in the oven.  The house usually smells like pumpkin spice, I’m not going to lie.  Ha!  Deb and I cook every meal at home, but we do not make sweet things.  We just can’t.  Number one, I cannot have gluten or wheat, which is in almost everything. Deb tries to stay away from it, because it affects her in different ways.  And… I just simply cannot stay out of it.  If I would make gluten free goodies, I would eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  So it’s best that I don’t have them around.  I found a perfect solution to my problem of wanting the LOOK of baked goods in our home, but not be tempted to eat them.  I rounded up some gorgeous artificial baked goods to use in your home decor.

But, first…. Story Time

When I was a young mom, some friends and I got together once a month to have a craft day. We would rotate the location of these craft days to each of our homes and pick a craft to do. Our kids would play and we got to not only chat with each other, but make some really fun crafts.  We laughed a lot and just had so much fun. (I highly recommend setting up some type of day like that if you don’t have one already.)  One time we made floral sprays using all types of dried flowers.  Each of us had different dried flowers or weeds that were pretty that we would contribute to our craft day.  One month we made Christmas ornaments out of salt dough.  And, also made the folk art Santa ornaments that a lot of you have made after I shared them one year.

A few of us just loved the look of fake baked goods and decided to make ourselves a fake pie.  I do not remember the dough that we used, but I do remember carefully making a pie crust and forming the edges like a real pie.  Each little blueberry was a rolled dough ball that filled the fake pie crust.  To finish it, I added some type of design with the crust on top and poked a hole in a few of the blueberries to make them look more realistic.  Once my fake blueberry pie was baked, I painted the blueberries and coated it all with some type of sealer.

This has been over 30 years ago, so all of the small details are long gone, but I was so proud of that fake blueberry pie.  It looked so cute sitting on my stovetop.  And, I was very proud of my work.

Did you see that I found a fake cherry pie at the 127 yard sales?

See my entire antique haul from the sales!

I brought home that fake cherry pie from the yard sales and was so excited that I found it.  And, do you remember my fake cake?  Ha!  I have used it in my home decor for YEARS.  When friends walk into our home, they always ask if it’s real.  When you add it to a cake plate and display a few plates and some silverware around it, it really looks like you are ready to dive in.  Last winter, I displayed some fake cupcakes on this same cake plate and loved the look of that, as well.

Well, someone sent me the link to these gorgeous fall cookies and I truly thought she was sending me a recipe.  Until I read the description.  These are IMPOSTERS. And, of course, I HAD to have them for this fall season.  So I ended up going down a rabbit hole and looking at different fake baked goods to use in your home decor. And found so many different styles.  They all look so realistic.

If you have sense about yourself, you can certainly display real baked goods under a cake plate in your decor.  But, I have no sense.  Ha!  So, as far as I’m concerned, artificial baked goods is the next best thing.
