Tis the season for staying inside, out of the cold, and cozying up on the couch! That was my inspiration for this Cozy Christmas Couch refresh. I added a new cozy throw blanket, updated our throw pillow covers for the Winter season, and rounded up a bunch of great products to inspire your home decor.
At the end of a long day, Deb and I love to kick up our feet, sit on the couch, and watch our favorite shows. It is good for our souls to let our bodies and minds rest. Being comfortable is so important to us, especially during this time in our day when we are relaxing and finding joy in all the things we worked so hard for during the day.
Being cozy also takes on dual roles when the weather turns cold. Cozy turns into soft, plush, and textured items. We may suffer from hot flashes, but we still want all the warm and cozy vibes as we are sitting by the fireplace with the Christmas tree twinkling in the corner of the room. Does it get any better than that.
So, without further adieu, here are a few ways to cozy up your couch and furniture areas for the Christmas and Winter season.
We always keep a couch blanket cover on our couch. It protects it from accidental spills from the grandkids (or Deb) as well as when Ivy jumps on the couch when we aren’t watching. Who could blame her.
We also recently added a Soft Topper Pillow Cover from Green Row. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it because doesn’t take up the full length of our couch, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love another barrier of protection on our couch as well as the added cushioning, texture, and dimension it adds to our couch.
Here are some great couch blanket covers to protect your couch and help you change up the look.
For Winter, I prefer a throw blanket that is both soft and textured. It doesn’t necessarily have to be super thick, but I do like something that has an added weight. I find it calming. I purchased the Blagic Knitted Throw Blanket (50″W x 60″L) in color, B- Dark Green.
This throw is a lovely muted green color that doesn’t overwhelm my senses. It is very soft and has a lovely wheat textured with tassels. No matter where I put this blanket in my home, whether on the couch, at the end of the bed, or on the back of a chair, it looked fantastic.
We have pillow inserts on our couch so that we can change out of pillow covers with the seasons. Needless to say, I probably change our pillow covers every few months because it is such an easy way to change the look and mood of a room without putting in too much effort.
I purchased these Glory Season Velvet Throw Pillow Covers in the Fall in the Golden Camel color and loved them so much that I repurchased them in the color, Olive Green, for Winter. It is so soft and I love the ruffled edges. They are 18″x18″ and come in a pack of two for under $20.
The Miulee brand Pillow Covers are ones that I purchase frequently because of their great quality and their vintage-inspired style. I purchased the Miulee Christmas Red Striped Farmhouse Pillow Covers to layer with my green Glory Season Pillows on my couch.
I also added these Glory Season Cotton Retro Ruffle Pillow Covers to our chairs in our kitchen. These are 18″x18″ and come in a back of two for under $20. We went with the color, beige (I know you are shocked, hah). We also get asked all the time about our kitchen chairs. They are the Christopher Knight Home Tufted Fabric Recliners on Amazon. As the weather cools, our daily coffee breaks start to happen in these chairs instead of outside on our porch swing.
Here are some great pillow covers from across the web to update your holiday decor.
Another item to add to your cozy couch that you might not think about is a cuddle item. That would be a smaller pillow or stuffed item that you can wrap your arms around while you are relaxing. I especially like items that are weighted. We have the Giving Heart Weighted Pillow. It is small but has an awesome weight from the beads inside. We have the color, Cream, but it comes in a bolder Cranberry Red which would be great for the holiday season.
This would also make an amazing gift idea for someone who is having a hard time and is missing someone important to them. Ours came with a note that read, “We all need a little comfort now and then… A reminder to help us know that we are not alone in the world… That there is someone in our corner, ready with a hug, no matter what. Always know you are being though of, cheered on, and loved for exactly who you are – Someone who is cherished.” How amazing is that?!
Here are a few other cuddle items to add to your couch or chair this holiday season.
These are such easy and inexpensive ways to both upgrade and refresh your Christmas decor while also creating a space where you can relax and feel at ease. Like I said, we put so much importance on comfort at our age.
Well, here we are in the fall and winter months of 2024 and you know…

Love the idea of changing out pillow covers for different seasons. Do you use the same size pillow insert as the pillow cover? I've seen some people use a size larger insert but I don't know if that would make it over stuffed and hard rather than fluffy.
I like the same size of pillows to pillow covers because I like my throw pillows a little more squishy, if that makes sense.
