Wooden Tray from Pallets

Did you catch the neutral American flag project that Deb and I shared a few days ago?  We made it from free pallets.  Well.. we had extra boards left from those pallets and Deb decided to use the boards to create something else.  She took a few boards and whipped me up a little box.  I LOVE little tray boxes and she has made several of them for me.  They work so well in my decor.  This one in particular will be perfect for an outdoor space or on the porch since it is made from free pallets.  AND, she left spaces between the boards for the rain, if we use it on a patio. Keep scrolling for details on how Deb created this gorgeous  DIY home decor tray from leftover pallet boards!

Wooden Tray from Pallets

I took tons of photos because it’s basically self explanatory.  She cut two side boards in the length she wanted the tray and used them for the outside of the tray.  And then two for the opposite sides that are the same length and used them for the inside.  She attached all four sides together first making an open rectangle which makes the actual tray.  Now onto the bottom.

Deb cut two random pieces the length of the tray and attached them directly to the bottom of the “rectangle” she made above.  And then attached three pieces on the bottom running the opposite way.  She used our cordless nail gun and 3/4″ nails.  It’s the one she bought me, but has been using for every project since she brought it home.

These trays look really cute with random handles.  You can put them on the top of the short sides of on the actual sides of the tray.  All of ours are in storage, otherwise this one would have some.

Also.. I love throwing random items in my trays when I decorate.  I have it on my list to show you…. different ways to decorate wooden trays, so stay tuned for that.

What do you think?  AND…FYI.  This is one of my favorite cake candles.  They are wonderful for using inside of an antique bowl or crock.  It smells heavenly.  And did you notice the pitcher that I have full of artificial flowers?  I found that pitcher on our 127 garage sales adventure.  How I wish I could have that much fun junking all of the time.

OH…. I almost forgot.  I have been Pinning lots of fun pallet projects to keep Deb busy.  She is currently at a level 9 on the sour chart (1-10)…  She is so ready for the house and her workshop to get done so she can get some projects started.  So, I need to find things for her to do.  ????  ????   Check out and follow our TO DO LIST on Pinterest.

  • I have a wooden box with a handle and 6 compartments. It is 15 1/2" long, 10 !/2"wide and 5"deep. I want to call it a tool box, but I think it was used for a planter. I am hoping you guys can come up with an idea for me as to what to use it for. It is worn looking wood, not painted. Any ideas are welcome, thanks.
