Antique Finds from Garage Sales

Deb and I have been hitting lots of garage sales recently.  It’s been such a weird summer so it feels so good to be able to do the things we love to do.  And, I love sharing our garage sale antique finds with you.  We went to the Highway 127 Garage Sales a few weeks ago and found the coolest stuff.  I shared them in this post.  We had so much fun that I wish we could have that much fun every weekend.  There happened to be another ROAD of garage sales the next weekend.

We can talk ourselves out of going anywhere.  ????  We have every excuse to stay home.  I think we must have been a 10 on the boredom scale because we decided to go this past weekend.  We didn’t find as much and it wasn’t AS exciting as the weekend before, but we found a few items and I had to share.  And one of the pieces that we found can be recreated with odds and ends.  So I wanted to share it to maybe inspire you… But first….

Antique Finds from Garage Sales

We stopped by a store who had a bunch of goodies sitting outside on their sidewalks.  I immediately spotted this dinner bell.  Our big house out in the woods had one when we went to look at the property the first time, but they made it clear it was going with them.  It may have been in their family for generations.  ????  Anyway.. I always loved it.  They had $80 marked on the dinner bell and she said everything was half off.  So, that was a no-brainer.  That $40 prize came home with us.  It is missing the bottom piece but Deb said she could figure something out.  Stay tuned with what we do with this!

Repurposed Ohio Sign

Deb and I both walked up to this sign at another sale and were mesmerized.  ????  For those of you who don’t know.  I grew up in Indiana and Deb grew up in Ohio.  The state line is only 10 minutes away from our rental.  Our woods is about 15 minutes away from our rental in Ohio.  So, when we saw this, we knew we had to have it.  But you will never guess what it was before!

The person selling it said it was an old trunk top, which I think it has the coolest patina.  They used backplates from old kitchen cabinet hardware to form the OHIO letters.  And they attached them all with upholstery tacks in the same color as the hardware.  How freaking cool is that?

I thought this was such a cool piece that will look so cute on our front porch… or in Deb’s workshop!  But for now, it’s here at the rental.  I hope this OHIO sign inspires you to look at things you may have laying around differently.
