I asked Deb to make a little wooden heart tray for Valentine’s Day. She loves little projects like this so I knew she would be all for it. I had this thought to make it out of wood and then add some type of a metal edge around the outside. She keeps little scrap pieces of wood from other projects so that was covered. But she ran to the hardware store quick to figure out my request for the metal edge. And here is what she came up with.
Deb is a smart one. She grabbed a heart shaped box of chocolates while she was in town. This will serve as her template for the wooden heart tray. And, it will serve as little treats for us to eat. ????
She started by laying 5 scrap boards out side by side on the workbench. Then drew around the heart shaped box making her design. She air nailed scrap boards on the back to hold all of the boards together as one large square. And then added some screws for extra strength. Using a jig saw, she cut out the heart shape design.
She then added three little feet on the bottom of the tray which were scrap spindles from her stash. The metal edge idea that I requested is actually metal weather stripping that she found at the hardware store. Deb is so creative. She attached the metal weather stripping with little nails all around the edge. It was really easy to cut as we just used scissors.
She then gave this little tray a coat of stain, which could have been done before the metal edge but we didn’t know how we were going to finish it. It would look really cute painted as well.
Do you love little craft projects? I made a few other things in the past years if you want to check them out. The little heart shaped ornaments are probably some of my favorite things. I added them on one of my little trees that I keep up all year long. I also made a cute heart garland several years back, too.
What do you think of the cute little heart tray that Deb made? I love it and think it’s perfect for Valentines Day decor and pretty much all year?
