For those of you just joining in on the fun, I am setting monthly health goals since I can’t get my shit together and change a bunch of things at the same time. ???? I am setting one goal each month to carry over to the next. My January health goal was to give up coffee creamer. You may be asking why I would do such a thing. It’s because I like my coffee light brown… the color of carmel…. basically half coffee and half creamer. Well, not only do those calories add up quickly, but it does a number on my sugar level first thing in the morning. I started drinking my coffee black or using Nutpods on January 1 and have done magnificent with no cheats. It took a little getting used to at first, but I’m over it now. YES! ????????
It’s now February 1 and time to add another goal. But, I decided to add two. Because I believe they go hand in hand. I have several of my future monthly goals set in stone. February was going to be drinking all of the water and March was going to be scheduling workouts. BUT, January usually brings lots of “specials” on gym memberships . Knowing that, we ended up calling one of our local gyms and just for signing up in January, we got two weeks of group training FREE with one of their fitness trainers. That was the true selling point for me.
If I go to the gym on my own free will, I start working up a little sweat and think, “Ok, that’s good enough….I’m hot. And, I don’t want to have a heart attack or anything. … so I’m done.” ???? I am not even kidding when I say that. I NEED someone there telling me what to do, how to do it, etc. And, I need a specific time scheduled to be there or I won’t show up on my own.
I won’t even bore you with all of the reasons why one needs to drink water, because, like me, I’m sure you’ve heard them before. But the ones that I am interested in are that it aids in digestion, makes you feel full, and makes your skin look amazing. But, you need to be drinking the proper amount of water to see the most benefits. I knew I wasn’t drinking enough. And the little gadget at the gym even told me that. Gym Boy informed me that I was dehydrated… and that I need to divide my weight in half and be drinking that amount of water in ounces every day. So if you weigh 150, you need to drink 75 ounces of water a day. Seriously, that seems overwhelming and like a heck of a lot of water. But I have a plan….
Part of my problem when I’m working out is what I stated above. I get a little hot and tired and just go home. ???? Deb and I actually started a few weeks ago in order to get that free couple weeks worth of training. We didn’t have any sessions planned this past weekend but we were going to go and do some light cardio because we were terribly sore. The time kept ticking by… getting later and later. Both of us said, “Ok… let’s skip today.” It was THEN we realized that we HAVE to stick with a trainer. It is a must. If we have a time scheduled, we will for sure show up. If we don’t….. it’s never going to happen.
I know how many ounces of water I should be drinking daily but I usually fill up a few glasses and think, I’m good. Kind of like my version of working out. I need to know EXACTLY how much water I am drinking in order to stay on track. So, if I buy a container that was near the amount of ounces that I need to drink every day, I will be able to monitor it better. Therefore, I purchased a container that holds 85 ounces of water and plan to fill that up every single night. It will be stored in the refrigerator to stay cold, and that will be used to fill my Yeti cup. I am using these colorful reusable silicone straws to add a little fun to this madness. ????
Those are my plans and I’m sticking to it. So….seriously. Just think about this. In a few short weeks, I will have given up the chemical filled coffee creamer, have six weeks of workouts under my belt, and have my water intake right where it is supposed to be. I plan on reporting back here on March 1 with the results of everything I have started. I want to share with you the results I have seen from my water intake and the workouts at the gym. Oh…. And I will be adding my next goal. So, far this has been so much easier for me to stick to. I don’t feel overwhelmed at all because I only have one thing, and one thing only, to focus on.
Are you guys making any changes? I heard from a few of you over on Instagram and Facebook that you were trying the one goal each month, because it seemed more manageable to you, too. If so, let me know how you are doing.

This sounds like amazing goals to set and obtain. I have been trying to figure out how to cut out coffee creamer and sugar in my coffee. I just cant drink my coffee w/out all the added junk!! Therefore last week I started cutting way back on my coffee. I started noticing thatcoffee was adding to NOT helping with anxiety. And the anxiety was getting so bad it was scary. I can say that since cutting back on coffee, in just a weeks time, the anxiety hasn’t been bad at all!! I do not eat a whole lot, but this coffee with added sugar and creamer is definitely the reason I am NOT losing any weight. Thank you for sharing. I may try the Nutpods out, my only concern is buying them, not liking it and wasting money. I have been known to waste money trying out something new.???????? Anyway, if you get time, can you let us know what kind of taste Nutpods give the coffee and is it easy to adapt to? Thanks girlfriend ❤❤❤❤
Nutpods doesn’t have much of a taste. There is no sugar. BUT, I think I enjoy it because it takes the bitterness out of the coffee. And rest assured, I refuse to give up coffee period. I don’t know how people wake up. Or even WHY they wake up? ????
I have also incorporated lots of water into my day and now I need to invest in Depends! Lol ???? I can’t hold my bladder anymore, I’m 54, maybe I need to incorporate kegel exercises into my workout routine! Lol
???????????????????????? I hear ya.
I just can’t drink coffee black. I too enjoy my morning mug and a half but I do not like sugar or flavorings in coffee. I have recently started buying non fat half and half. I don’t like the idea of the extra junk in other creamers marketed for coffee and the calories are the same as for the Nutpods product which I cannot buy locally. Am I missing a downside to doing this?
No… I used to drink the coffeemate creamer… and use tons. I actually think half and half is a good option.
Just wanted to let you know your not a lone about thinking your going to have a heart attack if you overdue it. I do the same thing! So I started going to a weight class at the Y and love it. Also my doctor informed me that I wasn’t drinking enough water and it is effecting my kidneys. He stated at least 64 oz. So glad that you posted the water jug to see how much water you have to consume. I just ordered one. Really enjoy the Instagram post and your blog. Thank you both D&D.
Thanks so much! And, I’m so glad you are doing the weights. I’ve come to learn that working out with weights is so much more beneficial than cardio only. I cannot believe the difference in how I feel. Keep up the good work.
