Handmade Copper Mixing Bowls by Sertodo

As soon as I shared this photo over on Instagram, the messages started rolling in about these copper mixing bowls.  You guys don’t know this, but we used to have hammered copper sinks in our big house out in the country.  We LOVED them.  We loved them so much that we are going to install them again in our new build.  There is something about copper that just warms up any space.  Copper is a metal that never goes out of style.  I stumbled upon a website a few weeks back and was completely mesmerized by their copper pieces.  I hopped on a phone call with the owner of Sertodo to find out more information about their gorgeous pieces.  And, I knew that I had to share his story with you guys.

How Sertodo Came to Be….

John, the owner of Sertodo, told me he decided to get away from life for awhile.  While driving down the road in a southern village in Mexico, he spotted some very shiny objects.  He pulled over to find a peddler trying to sell hand-made wares.  He said he was so impressed by their talent that he loaded up his car with some of their creations and brought them back to the U.S.   They sold like wildfire.   In short, that’s how Sertodo came to be!

John currently has 10 highly-skilled artisans who still make by hand ALL of the pieces sold through Sertodo.  So they are all unique.  The pieces are made from 100% recycled copper.  Before plastic was invented, copper was used for lots of items because of it’s durability.  The copper pieces he brought back to the U.S. 20 years ago are still going strong and will most certainly last a lifetime.   You guys have to watch the video on their website, which shows some of the process.  And you get to meet John. ????

Handmade Copper Mixing Bowls by Sertodo

John sent me a set of their mixing bowls and I am thoroughly impressed.  He told me they were hand made but I don’t think it all registered with me until I actually SAW the unique pieces.  Every one of these marks are hit with a hammer by someone’s hand.   It’s unbelievable to me.  What an unbelievable talent.  I already know what mine would look like if I tried something like that.  ????????

The handle design of the copper mixing bowls have changed throughout the years.  John was in France and stumbled upon an omelet house that has been there FOREVER.  He saw the handle design on the copper bowls they were whisking their eggs in and took the idea back to his artisans.  The bowls used to have a small ring as the handle.  Now, they are made with bigger handles and each one is hand riveted in place.

Note:  These are mixing/whisking bowl.  They have rounded bottoms.

More about Sertodo….

Sertodo make so many different copper pieces which include Barware, Canisters, Cookware and more.  They also do custom work, too.  If you can draw it on a piece of paper, they can make it.  They have made range hoods and also created the longest copper bar.  I would LOVE to see that in person.  There was a bar in NOLA with a copper top and I was completely in love.

Cleaning Sertodo Copper

As we all know, copper has a great patina after time.  Personally, I think the patina makes it prettier.  BUT, if you don’t like that look, you can easily clean them with a copper cleaner that you can purchase pretty much anywhere.

Sertodo was voted one of Oprah’s favorite things back in 2014.  So, that should tell you how great this company is.   These are investment pieces that will last a lifetime.  I got you guys a code if you are interested.
