How to Apply Eye Make-up and What Products I Use

I’m assuming the title of this blog post confused you.   My friends over on Instagram asked me to show them how I apply my eye make-up.  I know, I know… you guys may be thinking, “Listen, old lady, you know nothing about applying eye make-up so stop acting like you’re a cosmetologist.”   And lots of you are probably saying, “How the hell do they know what her eye make-up looks like.  I’ve never even seen her.”   And some of you may be saying, “I really don’t give a shit about eye make-up.  This is dumb.”

How This Post Came About

All of those would be appropriate comments to this post. ???? And, if it’s not your cup of tea, stick around for the entertainment …. or just go away.  But don’t go away mad.  ????     First off, I’m not a cosmetologist.  I do, however, have a mom who has worked as a “beautician” for the last 200 years.   Secondly, I was a Merle Normal girl about 75 years ago.  That should all qualify for something.

Over on IG, (what cool people call Instagram) we use hashtags to separate pictures into categories.  Not only do people post beautiful pictures, but lots of folks post in their stories, including me.  My stories are usually all about our daily shenanigans.  #shitshow    That’s where my friends came up with the idea of me showing you how I apply my eye make-up.

Beware:  Giant Eyeball Pictures Ahead

I’m not going to lie.  I was a little hesitant of this idea.  I mean, a close-up picture of my eyeball is a little frightening to even me.  Not to mention, I believe make-up is a personal preference thing.  Some people don’t wear a drop of make-up and others cake it on.  I happen to be somewhere between the two.  I, also, believe that make-up is like painting a picture.  Everyone’s interpretation is different when creating their own masterpiece.  Therefore, there is no right and no wrong way of applying it.  And, hey…there is no other choice than to work with what we have, right?    ????????   So….. without stalling any further, here we go.

How to Apply Eye Make-up and What Products I Use

Primer:  I didn’t start using eye primer until the last couple of years. And having old lady eyes, I’m telling you, I need it.  It’s a crime not to prime is what we say.  ????  It really helps my eye make-up not crease in all of the wrinkles. ????  I’ve tried several different drugstore brands, but truly I love this one.   If you have problems with your eye shadows creasing, try it.

Eye Liner:  I apply my eyeliner on BEFORE my eye shadow.  I know that’s backwards from what “THEY” say.  (Whoever THEY is)  But I find when I do that, the eyeshadow softens the liner a little.  And Lord knows, we all need a little softening.  I angle my liner up a little on the outer corner to create the illusion of an eyelift…  because Lord also knows, we all need a little liftage at this age.  ????  I’ve used this one before but have been sticking with drug store brands recently.

Eye Shadow:  I usually stick with neutrals and have recently been loving on this eye shadow palette.  It is filled with half matte and half shimmers.  I use both.  “THEY” say the older you get, you should stick with only mattes.  But, you know what I say about that.  I DO WHAT I WANT…. because I can.  ????   I apply one of the lighter matte colors as my first coat.  Using a color close to my skin color helps make it look a little more natural.  I apply it over the eyeliner that I just “slopped on.”  Quoting Deb.  ????

I then take a darker color, either matte or shimmer, and add it over the liner angling it up on the corner as I did with the liner.  I mean…liftage.  Hello!

Mascara:   I go NO WHERE without mascara.  Not even to the dump.  If I do, dump boy says, “wow…you look tired.”  ????  I swear by this brand as it makes your lashes look thick and long with one coat.

So there you have it.  That’s how I apply make-up and what products I use.

Thanks to those of you that stuck with me through the torture of seeing a giant close-up picture of my eyeball and for reading my blog!  I appreciate every single one of you more than you know.  I pledge my love! ❤

Buh bye now!!!!
