How to Set a Casual Antique Looking Table

This blog post is written in collaboration with Walmart.  I have been compensated by Walmart for this post but, as always, all opinions are my own.

You guys know I am a vintage girl at heart.  I love antique furniture, crocks, bowls, dishes, silverware.  You name it, we have it.  And we have a lot of it, too.  One thing that I LOVE to do is to actually USE my vintage pieces.  But when I can’t, I will find items that actually look vintage to keep with my theme.  I am no expert on old dishes but I’ve heard some not so good things about some of them having lead.  So when it comes to old dishes, I like to use new.  I recently found the CUTEST antique-y looking dishes at none other than Walmart.  So, I thought it would be fun to throw together a VERY CASUAL antique looking table with everything from Walmart Home.

How to Set a Casual Antique Looking Table

I fell immediately in love with these antique looking dishes while I was browsing Walmart’s Home section one day.  They look like the old type of transferware that I collect and display in my old cabinets.   They are lead free ceramic which means they are safe to use every day.  It’s a 16-piece set which includes four dinner plates, four salad plates, four mugs, and four ice cream bowls… which I would obviously use for soup and cereal, too.  I love the design of the bottom of the bowls.   The decorate edge of the entire set gives it so much more interest.

The Pioneer Woman line is one of my favorites from Walmart.  These footed glass goblets are perfect for ice water or even ice cream at the end of the meal.  Or if you are like me, I could eat ice cream FOR MY MEAL.  ????  I picked up this set of rose gold flatware.  The simple design of this flatware doesn’t compete with the antique looking dishes.  They come in rose gold, gold, and black.

Other Accessories….

I grabbed this 2’x3′ Vintage Leather Braided Rug and used it as a table runner to add some texture and interest.  And, if you noticed, I displayed it at an angle.  Originally it was straight on the table but it was a bit boring.  This rug comes in several different sizes and would actually make a great area rug.  Since it has some leather weaving, it should hold up nicely.  I needed some type of centerpiece.  These wood distressed candleholders keep it all very casual while keeping the vintage vibe.

Did you notice the silverware placement?

Did you cringe?  I know my silverware isn’t good “etiquette” BUT…. neither am I.  ????  I love the look of the randomness of the flatware just placed on the plates.  It’s random.  Like me.  ???? And besides…. I asked Deb if she thought people would have a heart attack at this placement.  You can imagine what she said.

Thinking outside of the box….

Obviously with my flatware thrown directly on the plates for this casual antique looking table, I like the out of the ordinary.  And, by the rug used as a runner.  But, did you think you could find such awesome antique looking items at WalmartWalmart literally has EVERYTHING to set any type of table you want…. from farmhouse style to modern.  I like to type the word “farmhouse” in Walmart’s search engine and see what comes up.   I am always surprised at the great pieces I find.  Have you found anything exciting lately from Walmart?  If so, let me know in the comments below, or over on Facebook or Instagram.

    • In my family you would never cross and knife and fork. It means a someone is
      Going to have a fight!!!

  • Absolutely gorgeous!???? Wish I had seen this before I bought a new set of dishes from Walmart a month ago???? Don’t get me wrong, I love them but dang girl!!

  • I love random flatware placement. Last Halloween I did something similar and was loving it. However, when I called everyone to the table the flatware had been precisely placed by some unknown guest. Sad day!

  • It looks like you are ready for a luncheon date with friends. I love the brown patterned tableware and the colored flatware. The tableware reminds me of an old holiday pattern I see at Thanksgiving
