January Fireplace Mantel Decor

I’ve come to a decision.  I love styling fireplace mantels. ????????‍♀️  Maybe it’s because it’s a new thing.  The television was above the fireplace in the last two homes we owned, so there was no styling them.  EVER.  Since we brought this fireplace mantel back from Alabama, I have styled it so many different ways.  Remember when we used it as a headboard?  Well, I decided that I wanted it here in the living room so I could see it all of the time.  I have so enjoyed it here.  And, I’ve so enjoyed styling it different ways.  I’ve made another decision, too.  There will be no television above the fireplace in the new house.  So we will have to get very creative in that area.

Now that the Christmas trees are down, it just seems bare.  I showed you the other side of this living room a few days ago and used an olive tree in the same place that I had a Christmas tree.  Well.. I decided to move it back over here on the mantel, with it’s twin, and I am loving it.  I put them each in old rusty buckets that I found last summer at a flea market.

Deb was working on a project last summer and cut the ends off of an old porch post.  They have such great shapes that I couldn’t bring myself to throw them away.  I added those because I thought they added the right amount of texture.  Since I usually only go with the woods and whites theme, texture is a big thing for me.  The more texture the better.

Shopping the storage unit…

I shopped my storage unit for a few antique frames and found this picture I made a few years back.  I was removing the old canvas painting, to add a piece of plywood, and realized the back of the canvas was just what I was wanting for my sign.  It’s ragged, stained, and torn… but so am I.  ????  I added the wooden letters… “Be your own kind of beautiful….” to the back of the picture by using spray adhesive.  This project was SO EASY and took literally five minutes.   And I still love it to this day.  Of course, I had to add my Luminara candles because they look so real and are the best.  They add such a nice ambiance.  I have them sitting on one of my old butter pats from my collection.

I talked about how we hang stained / leaded glass windows from the ceiling if you missed it and are interested.  And the little nightlight in this picture is an old lamp attached to a column.  That was a very easy project.

This entire fireplace mantel look took me about ten minutes.  And, I’m so happy with how it turned out.  I hope this post gave you a few ideas to decorate your own mantel for January.  Let me know what you think here or over on Istragram.  I love hearing from you!

  • I wish I knew how to download a picture of what we did with our television in our bedroom. It was an idea I found on another blog but it is so amazing and we get lots of compliments on it. You don't even know a television is behind it.

  • I love those words. My brother in law made them for me so long ago and I'm still yet to hang them. I haven't found a frame big enough. Your sign is gorgeous
