Laundry Area and Celluloid Hand Mirror Collection

Laundry Area and Celluloid Hand Mirror Collection - Deb and DanelleLaundry Area and Celluloid Hand Mirror Collection - Deb and Danelle

Deb recently went to the storage unit and grabbed my set of dishes that I love and missed so much.  While there, she text me when she came across some of my labeled boxes asking me if I wanted them at the cottage.  One of her text was about my antique celluloid hand mirror collection.  Deb isn’t particularly fond of this collection.  She thinks they are ugly.  ????  I happen to love them.  I bought my very first one at the thrift store for $5.  I loved it.  After that first purchase, I kept running into them everywhere we went.  Every time found them for $5 or less, I grabbed them.  And now I have a collection.

Another collection that she asked about while deep in the storage unit was my antique chamber pot collection.  I know it’s probably another weird collection but I love those, too. ????  Anyway… I put both collections in the laundry area here at the cottage and realized, I have never shown you this area yet.

Laundry Area and Celluloid Hand Mirror Collection

We hung this antique cabinet top above the washer and dryer a few months ago.  Do you remember where we had this previously in the old house?  It was in the master bedroom.  We found it for $15 at a garage sale and painted it white.   A few antique odds and ends pieces fill up this cabinet and thought I would add the chamber pots to the top.  I think I’m slowly trying to get all of my goodies here in the cottage.  ????  Actually, I want to get the entire storage unit cleaned out but that will be way later in time.

I used one of my old chamber pots to display my celluloid hand mirror collection.   They all have a beveled edge and I love the details of them.  One of them has the letter D carved in the back.  Someone told me they used to do that in the 20s and 30s for new brides… or someone who was turning 16 or 18 years old.

I absolutely cannot wait to build the actual house.  I will have so much more room for all of my fun collections.  This area will actually be fall-ified shortly.  So you may see this laundry area again soon.  I did hang this neutral pumpkin picture here for now.  And, I see it’s out of stock but linked it here just in case it comes back in.  I cut it down to the correct size for this antique frame, which is something I do quite frequently with my antique frames.

So..there you have it.  It’s our laundry room in the cottage… which is actually our bathroom.  Which I don’t think I have ever shown you either.  So, stay tuned for that post.

All of the sources I could link:  baskets / tree / pumpkin poster / square soaps

I also linked a bunch of celluloid hand mirrors here if you want to browse.  They are always fun to look at.

  • I've collected celluloid items including mirrors as well but expanded to include trinket and dresser boxes, hair receivers, trays and my most prized piece, a gentleman's dresser piece - a watch and jewelry "safe" It's pretty awesome. It looks sort of like an old victorian record player/cabinet with a special compartment to hold a pocket watch and a lidded top that has an area to hold other jewelry, such as cuff links, watch chain/fob, etc. If you'd like to see it, let me know. I've been enjoying following you both on IG and now your blog!

  • You have such an interesting and quixotic way of displaying your treasures that makes me continue to peruse the details for some time....the mirrors and chamber pots, of course, but the clock, the sign, the thermometer, the clothes pins, the sad iron...and what are those clear chunks of glass in the wooden bowl? I like all your collections! Don't get talked into getting rid of them. They are what makes a home interesting.

  • My husband loves collecting chamber pots also. I use an old enamel one ,with the lid and wire bale handle, in the utility room to hold my laundry dibs.
