Remember when we went to the Springfield, Ohio Extravaganza Flea Market this past September? Well, I told you we brought home a few goodies which includes these cute little sewing machine drawers, the shutters we turned into a head board, and this ????????old church window. I have no other before picture except this one. ????????
Isn’t that lovely? ???? She kills me.
We were strolling through the flea market trying to get through the million and a half vendors that were set up and sweating our old lady boobs off. I spied these huge old window frames. There were four. We walked over to them and window boy said, “I will sell all four of them for one money.” I was like…. “Um…. I don’t need four… I don’t really need one, but I think I may want one.”
Deb and I talked about what we would do with it. She was tossing around the idea of adding several shelves because it was about 8″ deep and making into a “junk holder.” (It’s what she calls my china cabinets.) I was really excited about that idea because I was envisioning a large wall type china cabinet and stuffing all of the white ironstone in it I could stuff.
We brought this church window home and leaned it up against the wall in the garage, where it sat for 6 weeks. Every day I drove into that garage, I wondered what in the hell we were going to do with this giant piece. I was torn. I have SOOOOOO MANY china cabinets that I really didn’t need another one. AND, this piece is nearly 8′ tall and 38″ wide. So it would take a special place to display it.
I walked around the house with a tape measure seeing if it would fit in different spots. And literally, the only spot it would fit was in the master bedroom, because this room is huge… 25′ x 14′. BUT, I already have a china cabinet in there because…. well because I can. I have the room. But I don’t believe I need two china cabinets in the bedroom. I’m sure people already think I’m a little crazy that I have one!
We didn’t have a full length mirror in the master. I’ve always wanted one but never found one that I loved. Soooooo, I asked Deb if it would be possible to get a mirror cut to fit into the back and just lean it up against the wall. We debated for a few days whether she should cut out the middle frame of each section of window. We were both afraid it was going to look strange. I finally said, “Just do it.” I don’t want a divider in it and if it looks like shit then we will make a “junk holder.”
Well, as you can see, she cut out the middle window frames and we added a mirror to the back. We ended up liking the church window upside down because of the detail on the frame. So… the window sill is actually now the top of the leaning mirror.
I think it turned out pretty cool and fits well with our style, and it’s definitely a statement piece.. I shared it over on Instagram and Facebook and it was a big hit. What do you think?
